To answer my question, I have two bath towels that I use for the week.

I'm asking b/c my mom is coming for a visit and I don't think I will have a dryer by then and I told her that she will have to use the towel more than once. I just don't have the space in my apartment to dry them. She thinks I am crazy.

Tell her using the towel for a week is the European way. It works for my parents!!!

I tried that when she visited me in Australia last time. The water costs are $$$$ and hearing her whinge after two days was enough for me to just wash her towels. However, I had a dryer then.

She'll just have to live. I haven't seen her for a year and a half. I refuse to spend that time doing laundry.

Chat Icon All my parents do when they come here is housework! One time I picked them up at the airport at 8 am and by 11 am my mother had cleaned my oven!!!

Wow-a year and a half. You must be excited. Enjoy your time with your mom.

I use mine for a week & then do laundry. I don't have my own washer/dryer, so it is a PIA to do a lot of laundry.

Re: Towel washing

About once per week. As others have already said, it's clean water off of a clean body.

I love learning about people's cleaning habits on here. They are often so different than how I grew up.

I guess we are in the minority- dh and I only change them once a week and they are perfectly fine- we hang them to dry daily and they never smell musty or anything like that

Yes, very! I have another month and a week to wait. Chat Icon

Racheeee- I wish my mom would clean and cook when she comes here! She always says she is on vacation when she visits, so she sits back and drinks wine and tells me what I should do. She already has her meal orders in. Little does she know the size of my kitchen...

I always get even with her when I go home to visit. Chat Icon

A lot. You are clean when you use it and usually you hang it out to air dry.
Waste of energy IMO.

Ditto

Actually I dont think they ever 'smell' when we put them in the wash.

I will say if the towel TOUCHES the floor it goes into the laundry and if AJ's towel doesn't get hung up immediately as in stays on the couch for more than 5mins it also goes in the laundry. I have cats. Kitty hair and on the floor could be kitty litter .. just that thought grosses me out. I dont want to wipe down my kiddo or myself and find kitty hairs on me Chat Icon

Re: Towel washing

Right now we don't have our own washer/dryer so we use towels 2 or 3 times before throwing it in the hamper.

When we live in our house (in about a week!!!!) ... we will probably just use it once between washes since it will be so much easier to do the laundry.

I guess I am in the minority here but we only use our towels for one shower and then they get washed....my theory has always been I don't want to wipe my face with the part of my towel that dried something else yesterday!!

our theory too Chat Icon

but when i am a guest in someone's home i will always hang the towel and unless they replace it i will use it for as long as it is there.

you should get these towels! Chat Icon

Re: Towel washing

bath towels about every 4 days or so. hand towels that i use to dry my hair have a tendency to get musty so usually after two uses.

A lot! BUT, in our defense, we live in a 4th floor walk up and the laundry room is in another part of the building, in the basement and you have to walk outside to get to it. SO, we make our towels earn their keep! Chat Icon If we had our own w/d, things would be different.

Same here. We have to go outside to a few buildings away to do laundry and we live on the 3rd floor.

Re: Towel washing

I'm not really sure...

I think about a week or so. I think it's crazy to wash a towel after using it once! Unless you used it to clean up a pitcher of iced tea that was spilled on the floor.

It's such a waste of water and detergent and energy!

Sometimes my DH will throw his towel on the floor and then that goes in the hamper, but after I dry off, I hang it on the hook, it dries and I go on with my life.

I wash my kitchen towels very frequently. I have a million and I change them about every pother day because i use them in lieu of an apron, which is something I need to invest in.

Wow, once???? You guys are all neat freaks- I love it!!Chat Icon Dh and I use our towels for at least a week before it goes into the wash-I mean, ithey are used to dry our bodies at the very peak of clean!Chat Icon How dirty can they be?

As long as you let it air dry on the rack it remains perfectly clean. If I only used all towers once, between the two of us and the kids, I would have 4 bath towels in the laundry EVERY SINGLE DAY! Oy, just the thought gives me a headache!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Towel washing

My DH uses a towel once -- or he used to before I hung and dryed it properly and he didn't realize it wasn't new Chat Icon

ITA with PP's who said you are using to wipe your clean body and provided you hang it and allow it to dry you are good to go...

with that said I probably use a towel 3-4 showers then wash.

We do too-though I grew up using it two days in a row. My DH though only used them once so thats what we do now

Eta: It also skeeves me that if you hang it in the bathroom the toilet is getting flushed in there and spreading bacteria all over your nice clean towelChat Icon
