Toddler doesn't understand Mommy's 1st trimester feelings

So I'm only about 7 weeks along (early!) but just started feeling really nauseous and tired. I have a 2.5 year old and any time I say I am feeling sick or tired, she is also all of a sudden feeling sick or tired. Any advice for managing this? DH is doing his best to draw her attention away, but she is definitely in a Mommy phase of life (permanently, it seems) so that doesn't help. Unless I go upstairs completely away, she fixates on the fact that I am laying down, and either wants me to get up or just keeps asking "You feel better, Mommy? You feel better now, Mommy?"

First time around I had a super easy time of it, barely any nausea. Any advice?

I'm in the exact same spot. 7 weeks along and DS is 2. DS is always asking "feel better now?" or "wake up wake up!" I feel so bad, but sometimes I just need a break. DH does the best he can, but ultimately they are still babies and they want us. Sometimes he will just cuddle with me, which I eat up as I know there wont be much more of in the near future...

Thanks for the reply! Happy to hear I'm not alone. Know what you mean about the cuddling! Tonight I said to DH, well I taught her how to be the little spoon at least!

It’s definitely not easy. That’s sweet that she’s so caring and sympathetic.
I have 3 kids ... 1.5, 3, and 5.
I just tell them I have a tummy ache. I don’t say I’m sick. The older two understand it’s because of the baby so they don’t get worried. When I need to lie down when my husband is with them, I just tell them Mommy is tired, if they ask me to get up I just tell them firmly that I’m sorry but I can’t right now. That usually works at least temporarily. They come over and I give lots of hugs and kisses and sit with them. They’ve seen me throwing up many many times by now so they do get a little concerned but then they see that I’m fine right after, they don’t really worry. I just give them lots of reassurance that everything is ok and attention when I feel ok. That’s all you can do! Hope you feel better soon!

No words of advice, just... I know how you feel. I'm 12 weeks now and still feeling like hot garbage. DD is about 2.5 also and usually gets it, but sometimes she's really insistent. She threw a fit the other night because I wouldn't sit on the floor and have a tea party with her. I told her "if mommy sits on the floor for the tea party, she's going to throw up in the tea cup." Chat Icon She looked so horrified that I would even dare to threaten that and just told me "Don't throw up in there!!" But she left me alone after that.

She also KNOWS there's a baby in there, she came to my last ultrasound with me so sometimes she's cool about it and other time she stands on my stomach screaming "I'm stepping on the baby!" Chat Icon Chat Icon I definitely did not appreciate how much harder it was going to be to be pregnant with a toddler.

I think her behavior is very typical of a 2 year old. We can't expect them to fully understand us not feeling well - they're just not cognitively capable of that yet. I think what she's doing is empathizing in the best way a little brain can.

I think it's just part of the whole second, third, etc, kid thing. This is the easy part, lol.

Totally agree. Jillian is 2.5 and she is very much like this... if someone has a headache so does she, and so on...
