Re: tmi issue

It was horrible the first 3 months of this pregnancy, it was like giving birth every days and i would dread the walk to the bathroom. It's better now, drank alot of water and took colace or benefiber.

It can be due to the prenatals. I think it's the iron that makes people constipated.

I swear I read somewhere that the prenatals could be the cause.

Re: tmi issue

I don't have this problem for some reason but while i was at the hospital my roommate suffered from constipation and they gave her colace every day. It must b safe if they were giving it to her at the hospital and i would have taken it too if i was having issues during my stay there. we also have the same doctors so i know he wouldn't approve something that was harmful to the baby.

good luck Chat Icon

Re: tmi issue

I'm almost 32 weeks and I was fine up until about 2 weeks ago. It's so awful. Colace does nothing, I eat fiber, drink plenty of water AND my pre natal has a stool softener in them! The dr recommended that I take a dulcolax suppository and it helped for the moment, but I was still constipated. It's common throughout pregnancy bc of the hormone fluctuations slowing your digestion system down. But I was like you last week sweating and starting to cry!! I feel you pain. Try and take the suppository if it gets too bad, but make sure you take it when you are home with nowhere to go for an hour or so. I used it as a last resort. HTH!

yeah same here so i dont think it was the prenatals. I read that the increased progesterone slows down digestion which causes the constipation.

Re: tmi issue

this is me too! i've been taking stool softeners (recommended by my OB), which helped a little at first, but not anymore! everything just sits in my stomach and it's SO uncomfortable.

Friends have suggested G+G crackers and fiber one cereal and bars. that's my next step before the enema by OB suggested!

I'm not sure myself. She said she bought it a specialty foods store. I just looked it up and it's called GG Bran Crispbread. It seems you can get it at Whole Foods, Fairway and other specialty markets. She also said she spread some Laughing Cow cheese on it because it's not very appetizing, but 2 crackers did the trick!

Re: tmi issue

I suggest colace. My doctor said its safe to take up to 3 times a day. I take one every now and then and it helps so much.

I tried some of the other things to make you go and all it did was make me painfully gassy and even more uncomfortable. Once I added in the occassional colace life got better. I also have a stool softener in my pre-natal which has helped too.

Try increasing your Fiber also. And stay away from white carbs (pasta, white bread, etc).

My OB has also suggested colace but gratefully I've never needed it.

Re: tmi issue

I have suffered from constipation my whole life...have even been in the ER a couple of times for it....needless to say, being pregnant I'm a bit nervous. Some helpful things that I have to do every day.....I drink a small glass of prune juice every morning and at night I take 2 Fiberchoice...this has been my savior for years. Since being pregnant, I follow the same routine but I have increased my water intake..I drink it all day. I eat a lot of high fiber cereals, veggies, eat 5 prunes a day and I stay away from carbs and shrimp which I find binds me up. Trader Joes sells an amazing amount of high fiber cereals and yummy high fiber bars. Spinach also helps me, dried fruits....all from Trader Joes Chat Icon You may want to check into this! Definitely know what you are going through and it's not fun....hope I helped some! Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
