thoughts about Magic Sleek

My hair is neither straight nor curly. For those who follow the curly grading, I am a 2b-2c with a lot of hair. For the past few years, I have not had the patience to flat iron, so I go curly with the help of some products. Now I'm wondering how I would like Magic Sleek. I am afraid that I will hate the in between stage when it is growing out. Eventually, I may want to cut my hair shorter and have a straight bob. I would need Magic Sleek or some sort of process if I do that. If I am going to have to go through the process of blowing my hair dry and heat styling it anyway, then I do not want this. I know it's expensive. Also, I have heard that it can take some of the color out of the hair if hair is dyed. I have always trusted this board, so tell me your thoughts about Magic Sleek. Chat Icon

Re: thoughts about Magic Sleek

I've heard very good things about it and know a few people who have done it. I've had Keratin done before and it barely made a dent in my summer frizziness, so I'm hesitant to try Magic Sleep, even though I've heard better things. The only thing really holding me back right now is the cost....but as my hair is frizzing today when it's barely humid, I wonder if I should just do it!

I've had it done. I did love it; I found it made my hair very silky.

I also don't have straight or curly. More of long wavy hair with occasional frizziness which the Magic Sleek tamed down.

I'd say it lasted a good four months or so before it started to wear out. There really is no in between phase like the other straightening methods out there. It kinda just gradually dissipates. Plus there aren't harsh chemicals in this which was also a plus for me.

I just got it done in march.
I love it! and my hair feels so healthy.

Keritan Killed my hair and i was hesitant, but glad i did it.
My Hair is normally thick and wavy, and now its just easy to style.

You asked about hair color, well i did color ny hair prior to the Magic, and i had to go back for a toner- The Sleek did make my color hair lighter

Re: thoughts about Magic Sleek

What salons on LI are good for Magic Sleek? I’m either getting it or going completely in the opposite direction & getting a Deva curly cut.

How much did you pay for it? And how long is your hair?

Re: thoughts about Magic Sleek

In the past I have done Japanese and Keratin and never had major issues and always liked the results. I always go to Hair Club IB in Flushing.

Today I went there to have Magic Sleek done for $250, aside from hair color I haven't had anything else done to my hair in 3 years. Well I am happy with the straightening results and procedure overall. However, OMG, all the color was striped from my hair. It went from a rich light brown to an orange blond, its crazy!!! They said I can dye it immediately so I will dye it tomorrow. I am praying this doesn't ruin the whole thing or damage my hair. Did this happen to anyone else?

I have read about this and there are pictures on social media that show it. I'm a little bit concerned. I'm still totally up in the air about this. I love curl but right now there is no style that is easy for me. Did your color correction work out?

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to skip it because of the color issues. I've gotten some good curl this week, so we shall see.

I died it myself and got some color back to look presentable but it is still very brassy. I will get a professional dye within a week or 2 and hope that gets it better. I was scared to do too much at once and felt it wouldn't take correctly.

Given the color issues I likely wont be rushing to do magic sleek again soon.

Ooh the pics really want to make me get it. My hair gets SO FRIZZY in the summer that I don't even bother to try straightening it most of the time. Does is ruin blonde highlights though? How much does your salon charge? I know it depends on length of hair, etc. Ballpark would be nice.
