Those who tried cloth diapers....
Crashing with a few 
Did anyone try them and not continue using them? If so, why?
Has anyone using them done any research on cost comparison with disposables? Obviously it is a big savings but ive recently read that depending on the amount of wash you do it might not be as big of a savings (especially if you have an older washer/dryer)
How many CD do you have and how often do you do laundry?

ETA :
Do you find that friends/relatives are receptive to it when babysitting or do you provide disposables?
Do clothes fit ok on them? The CD look bulky and im wondering if you have to get clothes in a bigger size?

For us it was huge cost savings. We used mostly prefolds which are like $2 a piece. I bought some diapers on Etsy real cheap and bought bum genius seconds which made them affordable. We also have a newer front loading washer which will definetely save you some money.
Right now daycare won't use the disposables so DS uses cloth when he's home and all weekend. I wash every 5 or 6 days. When I was home on maternity leave I washed every third day.
I have about 24 prefolds with six wraps, 13 bum genius and 6 smarti pants.

it is a little more effort to use cloth diapers especially prefolds
that was why i started with 24 prefolds and a few covers- initialinvestment less than a $100 -
i figure if i did not like them i could sell the covers and use the prefolds as rags
but i found it not that hard - so i kept going with prefolds till my son got harder to change ansd then i use some of the all in ones that are more expensive
on a side note - my son is in daycare and they will use my prefolds - i sent in every day and take home - remember daycares pay for waste -so that is the negotating point

Thanks Ladies.
Another question - what do you do when you have a babysitter (friend/relative etc)? Are people receptive to using the cloth or do they use disposable?

I use them and have no problems. Our water bill is about $35 every 3 months and we don't have a new washer.
I started with greenmountain prefolds and thirsties covers. I have 2 BG pockets that I use for night time diapers. My other favorite daytime diaper is fuzzibunz perfect fit. I have a bunch of other types, but those are the ones I find myself going too. Oh Gen-Y covers are good too.
It's great, when LO # 2 comes around we'll really have no diiaper costs :)

Wow - thats a low water bill - i dont think mine has ever been that low! You must be doing something right! I found a site that calculates the amount of electric used and at it comes out to be about $62/year for each load a week - so even if its 4 loads a week thats still $248/year for electric which i would think is still a huge savings from disposables. And i guess i could line dry some stuff to save electric on the dryer.

we don't have a good washer either - it is actually better to have a top loading =- diapers are bettter in more water
my mom was not perceptive on it at first but she has no problem - even the girls i have babysit have no problem - it is cool to be green now
i just use any free and clear detergent i have - i am not too picky - they all seem the same to me
initially i did laundry every 3 days - now i have enough to go a week - but i usually do 1 load every 4 days

Yup!! It's just DH and I. Not sure about electric, but I really don't think there was a huge change. It really works out to maybe 2 loads per week. I don't think it's a big deal. I line dry once in a blue moon, it's so much quicker to just throw in the dryer though. We have forced hot air for heat so sometimes in the winter I stick the drying rack over or next to a vent and they dry super quick.
