Those doing cord blood with CBR who ALREADY got the kit, important question

I decided to go with CBR. So I got the kit yesterday and when I took it out of the box, the seal on the kit box was broken. I opened the box then, b/c I was unsure what to do, and saw all the contents for the collection. It just didn't seem right to me that the seal was already broken.

So did yours come with the seal intact? What were your instructions what to do with the box? I have a call in to CBR rep to discuss this but I am upset, just doesn't seem right that the seal was broken prior to getting to me and I also am a bit frustrated, I don't feel their directions are very clear.

I didnt use CBR, I used Viacord. It explictly said not to open the box, that it was to be opened in the delievery room by the Dr or nurse.

I would absolutely call CBR and have them send you a new kit ASAP

yep I agree.... it should be sealed....

call them up and get a new one.....

I found the instructions pretty clear. keep the box sealed, store at room temp, fill out the shipping form according to their directions, and put it in your hospital bag until the big day.

Then there's a 1-800 # (for the courier) that your DH has to call immediately upon collection.

Thank you. The rep called me back and we both figured the seal broke in transit. The contents of the inside of the box should have been sterile (until I put my hand in it since I didn't know what was what.) He is sending me a new one, hopefully the seal will be intact this time.

The rep is wonderful, I have to say. I have to read through it b/c I am a bit overwhelmed but I am sure it will all fall into place.

Thanks!
