Absolutely. She has no right to say anything to your kids and besides it's the middle of the damn day!
Seeing kids doing karate in their backyard would make me SMILE! I love that they're not sitting inside playing on their iPads!

eta: I was home with my son one day and I noticed some kids in my yard. Their ball had gone over the fence into my yard. I just waved at them, whatever they're just kids!

How does playing karate outside with your sibling become screaming like a banshee?
Their children for petes sake, it's not 10:00 at night, their not shooting off fireworks while hanging from your icecicle lights...their playing like normal kids do.
You know those same kids we complain play on electronics too much?

No one tells my children to "shut up". I would be ok with "hey, can you boys keep it down a bit?" or something like that. But, "shut up"?? Those are fightin words, my friend......

I would also if my kid and friends were screaming excessively. Just b/c it's daytime doesn't mean everyone should have to hear high pitched screeches for hours. Screaming and screeches could surely make someone snap enough to let out a scream themselves (not saying this happened here, none of us were there).

We just moved into the neighborhood and it's SO quiet. When we go outside with 2 y/o DD I think how much my neighbors must hate us already. But she's a KID. And she's not being overly noisy. She's a kid playing. If it bothers you, come over and talk to me about it. NO ONE yells at my kid, especially to tell her to shut up. I would be out there making all kinds of noise.

I don't think telling a child to shut up is right at all, but I also don't think it's a good idea to tell a child to make more noise as a reaction when someone tells you to shut up.
It kind of reminds me when I was younger and I didn't want to listen to someone, so I'd cover my ears and go "I can't hear you, la la la "
