Ok I just read a theory that Jack died in the fire trying to save Kevin from his room in the basement. Remember, we never see Rebecca tell Jack that Kevin apologized and was staying at Sophies. She got side tracked b/c Jack started talking about them being business partners. And to take the theory farther, Jack leaves the note for Kevin on the basement and when he hears Randall, he says, "oh, I thought you were kevin"!!!! He has no idea Kevin wasn't home.

But I’m just wondering why Kate keeps saying that Jack’s death is all her fault.
Probably cause Kate makes everything about her! LOL. Seriously, I don't know, haven't figured that part out yet.
Unless she told Jack that Kevin was still home and he went back in for him? Just a guess...

I think Kate made Jack go back in for the dog and thats when the ceiling comes down and he cannot get out. Glad to be finally getting to this part but if they are going to do continual flash backs to Jack I am not sure I will stay tuned..but I guess Jack is such a central character he is in it for the long haul...dead or alive :)

There is so much more about his we don't know though. I feel like they wouldn't have dropped that one scene with the brother in, not to go back to it.
There is really no reason to not show him flashbacks though, because he has been dead in the current story line all along, and they show flash backs, so just because we are finding out how he dies, doesn't mean anything has changed in the current story line, so they will still be thinking & talking about him.

She also said that it's her fault Kevin went to rehab. So I just think she blames everything on herself.

Is it possible he doesn’t die in this episode? I know they keep saying we will find out, but maybe they mean we will find out he doesn’t die in the fire. Bc I feel like everything isn’t as it seems in this show.
If he doesn’t die in the fire, my theory is that he gets injured in the fire and won’t be able to start his big 3 business, which turns him back to alcohol. Hes drinking while driving and crashes when Kate’s dog runs out in front of him and dies.
I just don’t see how they have his jewelry looking absolutely fine if he died in a fire.

Another thought - when they show Rebecca pulling up to the house, she was driving her own car and the firefighters were still on the scene of the fire. Speaking from experience, unfortunately, I highly doubt she would have been allowed to drive her own car to the hospital immediately after having been in a fire. We were all taken by ambulance after my home burned.
Any thoughts on that? Am I missing something?

This season hasn't been filled with twists and turns so a fire may how he does but I don't recall Kevin on crutches in the flashback scene of the 3 of them at the funeral from the first season.

He didn't (i thought he did), but he had the cast for a while, so maybe it came off right after the fire. Maybe Jack didn't die immediately, but he was in a coma or something.
This article shows the screenshot of the funeral & mentions the other article I posted where Dan Fogelman says it's not a red herring & he doesn't die four years later or something.
That's an interesting part about the car. Also, it's not wrecked, so Jack wasn't likely in an accident in it.

I LOVED That part and didn't see it coming. Made you think the boy was for them, but it was Tess in the future. Love it!
Thought it was well done. Sad with some parts that made me smile. Sometimes I can't stand Kate and the way she treats Toby, but I like how she was to him last night too.

It was a good episode but I was disappointed. I think it didn't live up to the hype. I didn't cry once and I cry at basically every episode. I was hearing that it was going to be a shock and nothing we would think of but as soon as he came out it was obvious how he would die.
That was a nice little twist at the end with Tess.

I agree I wasn't shocked but, I did cry - when the doctor told Rebecca I started so I cried most of the rest of the episode since once I start I can't stop lol.
The shock would've been if you didn't know he was going to die - since I was kind of just waiting for it since they told us we'd find out. Since he was conscious, sitting up and talking in the hospital.

Agreed! It was good, was it "OMG" not really. The hype was just too much building up to it, they really made you think it was going to be the type of episode where your eyes were going to be swollen from crying.
The writing is so good so def don't want to discount that, but not what I was expecting.

I don’t think it’ lived up to the hype. When Jack ran out of the house at first I thought it might have been a dream and then from there I kept waiting for him to die.
I didn’t realize it was Tess but I was confused why a different social worker and not the one they worked with getting Deja.

I loved the twist at the end with Tess.

I was a little disappointed, I thought aww how sweet they are getting a little boy but I was confused too. I kept thinking how did the video survive when the fire started in the kitchen and possibly ended up in the living room. I got sad too in the beginning but then my mind would wander, and I was thinking what kind of chocolate bar was Rebecca eating, and looking behind her while she was on the pay phone. Maybe it would have been better if she ran in there while he was going through cardiac arrest and she had her last moments then. Im still going to watch and I thought the acting was great!!

Loved the scene with Tess.
I was very disappointed in this episode. They built it up so much from last season to this season and I was like...ummm that's it? Why is Kate blaming herself, she didn't tell him to go get the dog, he did it on his own. I thought they could have made it much more dramatic. I mean he just dies in the hospital room. They should have read some of our theories and they would have had a better show.
I will say though the acting with Mandy Moore and Kevin was fantastic.

I loved it. Really did. It seems to continue into the next episode which should be good too. It wasn’t overdone - which I’m glad about. I was afraid they would try too hard to make it extra sad.
I absolutely loved the end with Tess. I cried all over the place.
I think next week is the funeral and I may need Xanax. I lost my dad when I was young. So this whole things hits me pretty hard.
I love this show. It touches me so much.

I thought it was a great episode. I never cry at this show and last night I did. It was sad. The minute she started eating that candy bar, I felt the tears come on.

Does anyone think that Jack might of known he was worse than everyone thought he was? When they were in the hospital and she was going to make the calls and get food, he called her name, she turned around and then he was just looking at her like he wanted to say something then he said she was blocking the tv. She obviously wasn't blocking the tv until he called her name.
