Only thing, didn't Kate say it was her fault her Dad died or that she blames herself? Could have sworn I remember her saying that, so has to be a twist to what caused the fire.
Maybe because she took off while they were in the mall, so the distraction made them forget to buy batteries? A stretch for sure, but maybe?
Was thinking that could be it as well.... It seems like Jack is not drinking right now, I always was thinking that had to do with his death/fire, but who knows.
Obviously we all can't wait to find out. There is 100% allot more to Jack then we know right now I am sure. During the therapy session they made that clear.

i don't think he dies in the fire! but i could totally be wrong....i was also thinking it may have something to do with him starting his own business again and thats why kevin has so much guilt because he brought the business up to his dad again.

well, it is soon after t the flashback episodes they showed today, b/c Kevin is still in a cast at the time & Kate said that she was losing weight right before her father died and that was also part of the flashback episode.
We just don't know if the next episode's flash backs will be next in chronological order, but it seems like they might.
When they showed what we all believe is them finding out about Jack's death, they were all at Miguel's house except Kevin. I want to know why. and if that has somethng to do with why Kevin hates Miguel, or just because he is married to his mother.

Another great episode. Glad it was a tear jerker. Tired of depressing episodes, but I have a feeling they are leading up to Jack's death soon.
Anyone else wonder what Kate does and where's her friends? I know they focus on the family, but she had a job as an assistant first season and then they never went back to that. Now she meets this girl from class and they are dress shopping together.
She was trying to work as a singer, and around the miscarriage episodes, it looked liek she was getting soem work. I think she also went back to being Kevin's assistnat 9when he was working on the movie)
but yes, their jobs are sporadic. I assume Kevin has enough money to not work all the time, Toby works (Kate went to his office to tell him about the baby) and Beth works. Randall worked until the end of last season, and it seems like he made a lot of money, so they are ok for a while, but Beth seems over the stay at home dad thing.

I think Jack dying in the fire would be too obvious BUT maybe he did while going back in the house to get Kate's dog?! who knows, its annoying just tell us already!

I've thought for awhile now that this has to be it. The random incorporation of the dog was just too...random.

i thought it was just ok. it didn't really grab my attention and i realized i was browsing facebook on my phone while i was watching. kevin's just so mean to miguel. rebecca's starting to annoy me. and randall just takes everything beth dishes at him.
it was good seeing the other side of that girl kate is "friends" with. and it was really nice of her to take her dress shopping.
and oh no...they forgot the batteries in the smoke detector

If you remember last season when Rebecca pulled up to the house and it was burned by the fire? Assume the batteries has something to do with that......
no i know lol i just thought that was a weird way to bring it up. im just not as into it this season
Rebecca told Jack to remind her to get batteries when they all were going to the mall but Kate ran off so she forgot...if he dies in the fire, that could be why Kate blames herself.
And thats why they showed it at the end, to remind you that she forgot about them

I still he dies from something alcohol related. They wouldn't be focusing on him being an addict as much if he was sober and just died in a fire. I think the fire happens, they have to move out and he can't start his business, he starts drinking again and then he gets in some sort of accident. The way they show them telling Kevin, it was like he was in the hospital or something and died or maybe his liver gave out or something like that.

It’s also a very heavy episode to air after the Super Bowl. As it is I don’t like watching it right before I got to bed. This is “the”episode though.

This is Us **possible spoilers**
I literally woke up in the middle of night thinking about this.
Kate says it was her fault. And there’s this weird thing going on with her childhood dog.
I bet they all make it out alive and then Kate asks jack to go back inside for the dog. It’s the way he looks at her and that he’ll do anything for her that he does it...and then doesn’t make it out
Oh and then even worse. The dog comes running up to her outside after jack goes in that the dog made it out already

I'm now thinking the same.
I'm annoyed it's after the Superbowl too - and it's going to be super hard to DVR as the Superbowl hardly ever ends on time.

Couple of things are still making me think there is allot more then just Jack running back to get the dog and dying......in a past episode Rebecca pulls up to the burnt house wearing her football jersey and in the passenger seat was Jacks personal belongings in the bag. Don't know if that was the next day, a different year all together and her driving past the house.
The writing is just amazing!
