Re: The next horrible issue with Joey and the pooping.
Cailen had such a bad diaper rash when he was younger he was prescribed a diaper cream that insurance didn't even cover for 50 bucks!!! I forgpt the name of it, but if you are interested, let me know - ask the dr. if he may need it, I can give you mine!!!

Re: The next horrible issue with Joey and the pooping.
Sorry I'm catching this so late...
My DS Ethan gets some WICKED diaper rashes himself. For the tamer rashes we use the Desitin Overnight (CVS has a generic that is the same concentration) - this has 40% zinc oxide. We have tried every other over the counter and this one has helped the best.
For the more wicked rashes we use a prescription cortizone ointment that was prescribed to us by our ped when we took him there. It usually helps immensely in 1-2 applications. I will grab the tube when I go upstairs and send you the specific name, but I think any higher concentration of cortizone would be helpful.
We have also been prescribed Bactroban (I think 4% but I will send you the specifics) by our ped for a diaper rash that essentially turned into a wound as she called it... This is sorta like a supped up Neosporin or A&D.
We basically keep everything under the sun on hand as DS's rashes will go from slightly inflamed to massively inflamed in a matter of ours.
We have also resorted to quick bathing of the tush in the shower when he makes a poop and has a rash b/c the wipes are just too painful. If he is too upset (like my Ethan) to let you clean him well it will only make matters worse.
Hope that helps! I will be sure to email you the specifics later!

Re: The next horrible issue with Joey and the pooping.
Chiming in kind of late but something that's was pretty common for diaper rash when I lived in TN was Aquaphor mixed with Maalox. They would sometimes add another prescription ingredient but honestly the aquaphor and maalox mixture is a great barrier.
His rash doesn't sound fungal or anything, it's probably kind of an acidic burn so creating a barrier would definitely help.
Mixing the Maalox and Aquaphor can be a pain but once its mixed it's easier than trying to mix it each time.
Good Luck
