The Debate

What makes me laugh is that anyone truly thinks that any politician is "for the middle class". Every single President or candidate at least in recent years is the top 1%. Hillary, Obama, the Bushes, Trump. Who cares about tax returns. It was all done legally as the 15 years of IRS audits can attest too and there is no doubt there are major loopholes that need to be addressed but I think there are more important topics to be arguing about than a tax return.

The fact that he OR any corporation can get away with paying ZERO taxes shows just how broken our system is. Period.

I agree - but this is not his fault. If you want to place blame, it belongs with the politicians. He is not a politician but Hilary is. Maybe you don't like the way he brags about it or is smug but he has nothing to do with creating the tax code.

Understood. I don't blame him, I just think he's an idiot but that's another issue. Chat Icon

I truly have ZERO faith in ANY President, or really any politician for that matter. I just don't. I don't think any of them really have anyone's best interest in mind, especially the middle to lower class. Chat Icon

It's also very possible that after each ( or at least some) of the audits, he settled with the IRS and made payments that were actually owed - that Trump's use of all of the loopholes wasn't always justified. Not necessarily criminal penalties, but taxes that were found to be owed. Something we'll never know because he won't release the info.

If he didn't do anything illegal then I don't think it's something you should be concerned with. It is clear that you don't have any kind of background in tax accounting especially when it comes to the wealthy. And the average American would have absolutely no idea what they are looking at. I was a CPA and I would have no idea where to even start with his return. I wouldn't even attempt to do my own tax return and it's a hell of a lot less complicated than his! This isn't a 1040EZ we are talking about.

Only because of your condescension, I have to ask -

You were a CPA but you won't attempt to do your own tax return? Huh?

I am actually not being condescending. You may misinterpret my tone because we are not having a real life conversation, but I am being factual. I would never attempt to do my own tax return. I was a CPA, and I have limited experience with tax returns. Tax returns, especially for wealthy people or people who have a lot of diversified, complicated investment vehicles are extremely difficult. My background in public accounting was primarily in audit and then when I moved to the private sector I was a CFO at a hedge fund. Neither of these specializes in current tax code, so I hire someone that does specialize in this field. You wouldn't hire a real estate attorney for your divorce. I wouldn't hire an auditor to do my tax return. There is more to a CPA than filing tax returns.

Trump held his own. Hills not so much. JMHO

I don't like either of them, but he did not hold his own. He could not even coherently get his point across. He was terrible.

Maybe you are a die hard supporter though! I've found that most that are die hards think this man can do no wrong. He makes fun of someone with special needs on National TV and STILL gets supporters. He berates women, and women still fall to his feet. Amazing to me. But, he won't win, so it doesn't matter Chat Icon

No, I truly believe Bernie Sanders is for the low income and middle classes. Which is why I voted for him in the primary.

I am just so disgusted with the entire political machine in this country.

Hillary wasted all her bullets on this debate and Trump still held back the emails, the server, Benghazi, Slick Willy's affairs and HRC trying to sweep the mistress' claims under the rug, the Foundation, her lying about her health.

Also I will be shocked if we don't see another Wikileaks dump of more Clinton email data. IMO I think somebody overseas has this info and is waiting to dump it closer to election time so Hillary has minimal time for damage control. Maybe right before the second or last debate?

What are the Hillary pundits going to do if this info gets leaked?

How does Bill Clinton having an affair have anything to do with Hillary's ability to govern?

Donald Trump had a public affair with Marla Maples.

Something that has been said multiple times on this thread is bothering the heck out of me.

For everyone who is saying that HRC was scripted, rehearsed, robotic...why is that a bad thing?

I'd love for her to be more relaxed, but she has said many times that she is not a good public speaker, so she does the work necessary to make up for it with good answers.

Do you not want a President who studies issues, rehearses what they say and has answers to the questions asked of them? I can't fathom how some people are twisting her preparedness into a negative.

Granted, I think Trump is a human garbage pile, but if he had taken one second to practice for this debate, I might have found a shred of respect for him.

If he doesn't take the debates serious enough to practice and come off like he has half a clue how our government and laws work, what do you think he is going to do as President?

This.

And I also don't understand why being prepared or prepped is such a bad thing for HER when pretty much all presidential candidates debate prep. Why is it so bad for her to do but no other previous candidate who has done the same.

I hear you.

My response was more geared towards people who say that as if it's a point in his favor, as if it means he's immune to influence or somehow above others. As if he brings something new to the table. If that makes sense.

The fact of the matter is that Trump is a tax evader. He may technically not be doing anything illegal but he will continue to not pay taxes. If he gets elected he doesn't plan to fix this broken system or close the loopholes because it benefits him and his family. His economic policy will even be more advantageous to the wealthy with more tax breaks. To Trump, the average American is stupid for actually paying taxes.

He also blamed the mic for the appearance that he was sniffling. He actually said he didn't sniffle at all!

Was the mic the reason for the copious amounts of water that he drank as well?

Evading is not really the right word. If you want to say he is taking advantage of every loophole he can, and maybe that is slimy, I could potentially agree. But evading implies that he is avoiding paying taxes that he is obligated to pay.

If he truly is getting audited every single year then it's pretty safe to say there are many red flags in his returns.

Exactly!
I would guess he's being audited because they think he IS doing something illegal.
And does anyone believe HE is so smart? He is NOT so smart, but his money gives him the opportunity to hire people to find loopholes or shady ways to hide his money. Just because you can hide your earnings does not make you smart - it makes you a cheat.
