Looking at numbers, places like NY, that have so many restrictions are not any better than the ones open.
How long are we supposed to wait? This virus is never going away just like every other virus.
If you don’t feel comfortable then continue wearing a mask and staying home.

We have the vaccines now therefore EVERYONE should be waiting it out a little longer until more people are vaccinated, there is NO reason to jump the gun.

Also, I wouldn't follow the lead of either Mississippi or TX, two states that never had a clue to begin with. Chat Icon

I am all for reopenings and believe we absolutely cannot be completely shut down the way we were last year. But...this is horrifying and is going to end so badly.
Covid is never going to go away. But we are SO close to at least being able to permanently lesson the severity of outbreaks and death. We've made it this far...they are saying by May the US could be in great shape if we just hang tight until then.
And Mississippi...the state that ranks dead last in everything from education to Healthcare, good luck with that. Even Florida still has some restrictions. Opening up to pre March 2020 life right now is such a horrible idea.

We've come this far, there is NO reason to get ahead of ourselves and undo all of the sacrifices we've made in the last year. Things are getting better and we're so close to being through the worst of it all, it's the impatient and careless people that will screw us all.

This! I find 100% opening with no masks horrifying. I can not believe people are applauding this. We are SO close to things being so much better. Every adult who wants to be vaccinated will be able to do so by May. May is SO close. Requiring your constituents to wear a mask should be the bare minimum.

Like Polio...

I don't think you can compare polio to this virus though.
Polio you get your shots as a child and that's it. You never think about it again.
Coronaviruses don't disappear. They never have.
This will be more like the flu...it will always be around, people will always get it every year, people will always die from it, but the vaccine and treatments will help mitigate it to the point where the world won't have to be shut down. You'll probably have to get a yearly vaccine and they will probably have to tweak it too each year for different strains like the flu shot.
But it won't go away completely.
I don't mind wearing my mask, etc. until we get better herd immunity and I'm not saying Texas is right for opening, but you can't compare a Coronavirus to polio

Oh no! Those poor people! I guess they are all going to either die or suffer from long term effects of Covid! But seriously several states do not have mask mandates and the local municipalities can decide to have one, as well as large chain stores can make a corporate decision to have mask mandates.

Well we all know how this will end and who can be blamed when levels start spiking again. Texas has such a small % of its population that has even received a vaccine. I honestly feel like this decision was made because of the negative news they got regarding that storm.

I am all for allowing businesses to open but I do think they need to follow some standardized protocol. It's not going to be surprising when there is a spike due to the weather issues they just experienced. They had people crammed together in shelters. Now, Houston has all three variants of CoVid and they don't know how wide spread. As much as we want to say that most people survive CoVid it is deadlier than the flu. What happens when the hospitals in these states become overwhelmed with CoVid? I think the NY restrictions are too strict but I do think there still needs to be some protocol in place.

What restrictions are in FL? Are they not pretty much open? Aren’t masks optional in most places? Even GA many places don’t require masks. These places are not spiking and seems the states that have more restrictions are doing worse.

Not everyone can just get up and move. I personally would get out of here in a second but we have these things called jobs and school, etc. It takes time to plan if you have things holding you back.

The vaccine isn't brand new, out of nowhere. Scientists have had an understanding of coronaviruses for years. There is no reason to wait years and years for the vaccine, the more people that get vaccinated now the faster life returns to normal. You can't b!tch about the restrictions and things being closed but then do nothing to help the situation.

Exactly we have sacrificed so much, more than other states, and we are in no better shape. There is no end to this. They dangle a carrot in front of and are constantly changing when things will be “normal”. So I’m done. I’m living my life. I have a small chance of getting very sick from this, not going to die from it. Those are the ones who should be “quarantining” at this point. We know how to treat it. Elderly are getting vaccinated. LIVE LIFE ALREADY. stay home if you are scared.

There is an end, it's the vaccine.

We're almost to the point of normalcy, it's stupid to throw in the towel at this point.

So at what point do you think they can tell us, in other states, we can fully open, no masks?

This! I find 100% opening with no masks horrifying. I can not believe people are applauding this. We are SO close to things being so much better. Every adult who wants to be vaccinated will be able to do so by May. May is SO close. Requiring your constituents to wear a mask should be the bare minimum.

Who is to say the vaccine will work? How long do we wait to say ok NOW is the right time? Is there a special number to go by?

Science. Science says the vaccine works. Chat Icon

I hope so and I hope there are no major after affects from it. I will wait a few years, if even then, to see how this all pans out.

I hope so. That still doesn’t make me want to run out and get it. I don’t get the flu shot either and have no desire for that. I should have an option for both of these.

You have the option however, if you refuse to take the vaccine then you can't also complain about life not being normal. At this point, we can't have one without the other. I hope more get the vaccine then don't, it's the ONLY way out of this.

Texas is open!

For those of you opposed to the vaccine but also opposed to any restrictions, what is your solution? You can't just tell the elderly and immunocompromised people to stay home forever so you can live your life.
The healthcare workers can't handle another wave. With no vaccine and no restrictions, hospitals will collapse. I just don't understand how people still don't get this.

This is not complicated to figure out, when enough people are vaccinated and we see minimal new cases and deaths it's safe to say the vaccine is working and we can start easing up and lifting restrictions. But now isn't that time, it's too soon.

Yes anyone can choose what they want to do in life. Many elderly have no problem living life now as well as immune compromised people. It is an individual decision and some people are more scared than others as with everything in life.
Hospitals know now how to handle this virus now better so the hospitals won’t get overwhelmed.

Nothing improves if everyone wants to do their own thing and not consider others.
