Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
I have a few tattoos and always feel I have to keep them hidden when I am at work. Especially my arm band. Does anybody else think like that?

Re: Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
well, this has been my dilema. I want to get a tattoo, and would love to get it on my leg, by my ankle. Here is the thing. I am a teacher, and would PREFER my students to never know or see the tattoo. That is just my feeling. I have no idea where to put it.

Depending on the job keep them covered. Diane there are plenty of places you can get them. If you had your heart set on ankle then either invest in alot of boots or pants. LOL

I know, but in the summer I wear capris. Then I thought about above my butt, but DH said to me you cant have a tramp stamp with your sons' names on it I have no idea where to put it now. I want to get a cross with their names criss crossing at the "t's" of their names.

Re: Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
I have 2 tattoos. One on my ankle and one on my left shoulder. I haven't yet had a problem regarding work (I am still in school, work in a restaurant), but I don't really anticipate one eithe; I'll be working at the university level, which is always a little more laid back in my field (History). Any place more "out there" could be a problem; I'd love to have one on my wrist, but I couldn't get away with that in university academia.

Re: Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
Depending on the job I think that they should be hidden. I am in a very conservative field - accounting so all my tats are always hidden. DH is a teacher so he doesnt wear shirts that you can see his arms even in the summer. Once he was writing on the board and his sleeve lifted a little and that turned into the conversation the rest of the period.

What about somewhere on your foot? Can you stick to closed-toe, non-sandal shoes at work even in the summer?

I was in accounting for 7 years, I now work in Financial Services. My tattoo on my ankle is visible sometimes (with capris, skirts) and I have no intent on not wearing those items just to cover up. That is MHO

Re: Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
I have one that I always keep covered at work (lower back), and was initially very hesitant about my ankle tat because of the fact that it would be visible if I wore skirts in the office. Eventually I just decided to go for it anyway. It's small.

See but I think an ankle tattoo is pretty. I was talking about huge tattoos that are really visible. I have never come accross any co-workers with huge tats in the past 7 years in the industry. I know there was one company that I worked for that before the recruiter sent me on the interview they asked him if I had any visible tattoos.

Re: Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
Although I have several tattoos, I can hide pretty much all of the except for the one on my ankle (unless I wear boots). I want to get my kids' names (in white) on my wrists, but I am hesitant b/c of the current economy and fear of job stability I am holding off.
My current company is pretty lax, but I think if I had a bone through my septum they may say something, KWIM?

Re: Tattoo spinoff- Tattoos and work
I think it all depends on the field you're in. Some places it is more accepted than others.
I work in advertising.. we can pretty much look like anything because its a creative field. So noone looks twice when a tattoo is visible. I think if you have one in a place that shouldn't be shown anyway in the workplace (like a belly or something) then that becomes another issue..
