Talk me into buying a minivan.

I have said I would NEVER buy one. Dh’s commuter car is going and he thinks we should get a minivan. I have a 3rd row in my Journey and it’s pretty useless. I only have 2 kids both under 5 but I always have extra kids.

Tell me what you love about yours please.

Re: Talk me into buying a minivan.

I swore up and down no one would ever catch me in one. I've now had mine for 2 years lol. I only had 2 kids the past two years but I watch my nephew too. I love it because I'm able to pick up my friend that also has two kids all 4 or 5 in big car seats and we can fit everyone comfortably. I love how roomy it is. Everyone always comments how much stuff we can fit when we are going out with so many kids etc. mine rides really smooth too. It feels like a car while driving. I love the automatic doors! Stowing seats is helpful sometimes too.

Honda fits the most car seats. Toyota is the next I believe. At least that's how it was 2 years ago. Some only have latches for 3 seats which I think is useless then to have a minivan. Unless everyone you know and yourself has kids done with car seats.

I love mine. I love the sliding doors so I can actually get in and out even when people park too close. I love all the storage space. I usually keep two of the back seats stowed so i have room for strollers, groceries, and all the other gear that accumulates. It's super easy to put seats up and down as needed. We do lots of road trips and I love being able to pack as much as I want without worrying about it fitting. Last year we were upstate in February and it was crazy warm out rather than the usually snow and ice. I went through my car and found kites, bubbles, kid golf clubs, and probably more to keep the kids occupied lol. There is room for everything and more without it looking like a disaster zone.

We have the Sienna.. Love it. Tons of room, sliding doors are great for tight spaces, seems very safe.

I have the Odyssey and I was that mom that swore I would NEVER get a mini-van. Even when we had our 3rd (I had 3 kids under 2-so 3 carseats), I still refused to get rid of our Pilot.

When my youngest was a year old and the double stroller and single stroller came crashing down on me and gave me a black eye when I opened the trunk, I finally gave in. DH wanted a mini-van for awhile. Said it would make our lives easier.

Sliding doors are great, plenty of trunk space and easy to get in/out of 3rd row (this is what I hated about the Pilot and when 3rd row is up-no trunk space).

Get it!!! You won't regret it!Chat Icon

Test drive one. We did and I didn’t see a benefit of that vs a SUV (except the doors).

Third row is still a problem and up against the glass.

I have 3 kids in seats and have an Acadia. That would be what I would get in your place.

I’m looking to get all my kids sitting next to each other so if we got into a rear end collision, the third row one wouldn’t be killed. For that, I’m seriously considering the
atlas from VW as it’s wide vs Highlander.

Re: Talk me into buying a minivan.

DW and I both love our minivan. So much space, I've had 3 full-size adults in the 3rd row seat. With our Dodge Caravan, we have stow-and-go seating, so you can fold the seats into the floor, or use that space for more storage.
It's designed for parents in mind. There are so many features that are so convenient. Nooks/cubbies/cup holders all over the place.
We've used the sliding doors, and the tight opening requirement on many occasions.

With all of the seats folded down, you can fit 4x8 sheets of plywood, or equivalent (huge boxes, etc). Can't even attempt to do anything remotely like that in an SUV.

I LOVE my Sienna! My favorite features, which I'm sure I'm repeating here, are the sliding doors, the ease of getting into the third row, and the trunk space.

I'm purchasing a new car at some point this year and I kinda still want a minivan...and my kids are 12, 10, and 7! Chat Icon

Lol. I know... I’m nuts. The kids will kill each other in the second row, but it’s the only wreck I’ve ever been in (a rear ender due to a person texting) so it’s on my mind as my lease is ending and they made my car smaller.

Re: Talk me into buying a minivan.

We have the odyssey. I waited until my 3rd to get the mini van. We love it. I love the sliding doors and that the 3rd row is a real 3rd row. The storage is good and the kids all have enough room and I can even put someone in between car seats in the 2nd row and 1 adult and 2 kids can sit in 3rd row.

If I had three in car seats i'd consider it. A third row SUV isnt practical because you can't access the third row well with two car seats in the middle row and I think almost all 3rd rows only have anchors for one seat. Also unless you get an XL car the trunk space is dismal with the third row up.

Re: Talk me into buying a minivan.

We have 2 kids and got a sienna 2 years ago (kids were 1 and 4 at the time). Wouldn't go back at this point despite being totally anti-minivan. You just absolutely cannot beat it in terms of useable space. Ease of use with he sliding doors(both kids can easily open door and get in there own car seats at age 2 and now. We also have a large dog that usually hangs out in the 3rd row on trips so again makes the van really useful.

Talk me into buying a minivan.

i'm probably one of the only people who actually wants a minivan Chat Icon ( i have a Toyota RAV 4 now) we only have 2 kids (7 and 4, so they'll be out of the big booster seats soon enough) - but i'm a SAHM and i'm always schlepping them around. a lot of in and out of the car- and i'm tired of yelling at my 7 year old not to hit the car parked next to us when he flings open the door, so looking forward to sliding doors. Plus the 3rd row... my in laws and my parents all live out of town so we usually spend a few days together when we see each other. so its annoying to take 2 cars everywhere for those few days. would be nice to have room for them (and to help drive my son's friends places) plus, again, with all of our family being out of town we do a lot of road tripping where extra room would be nice. Hopefully later this year i'll get my Sienna HAHA

Re: Talk me into buying a minivan.

Once you go sliding doors you will never go back!!

I always wanted a van its just so awesome for families. I only have two kids and I LOVE my van. I have 2016 honda odyssey and it a lot of great options in. My girls are in booster seats but I watch my nephew a lot and installing his convertible rearfacing is a breeze in my van. I love the full third row for when we have extra family with us. I can't see giving up driving up a van anytime soon!

Re: Talk me into buying a minivan.

I have 3 (10, 9, 4) and I do love my mini van. I didn't want one but my dh insisted and he was right...it's pretty awesome. It's easy to get everyone in and out. When we decide it's time for a new car, I will move on to a suburban, because it's more of my preferred look and I want the 4 wheel drive.

Talk me into buying a minivan.

That center aisle also makes a big difference. If you're on a road trip and do is driving, you can get up and walk back to the kids and give them what they need, feed a baby, (break up fights etc) Chat Icon I also love the lift gate that opens without you touching it and doors that open automatically too!
We rented one, and I loved it. DH hated it. We don't have one but I wish I did!
