Summer Vacation - would you rather go to the Caribbean or somewhere like Lake George?
We plan to do a family vacation with our toddler in July. Originally we were going to do a week in Lake George or maybe go somewhere like Maine for a week. Our friends are thinking of going to Jamaica in the summer, which I thought was odd at first. Then I thought I'd prefer to hang out at a caribbean beach and resort vs the beaches up here.
Do you think it is odd to go to the Caribbean in the middle of summer?
Which would you prefer - Lake George or Caribbean?
We'd most likely go to Aruba or Turks and Caicos if we did go to the Caribbean..

we would def. prefer carribean and want to take DS 20 months old, to turks sooooooo badly, BUT we are afraid he will destroy our relaxation by acting up on the plane LOL so we will most likely drive to nags head. he has a habit of acting up at the worst times! he knows we are scared of him embarrassing us!
my fear is he will be terrible on the way there, and we will worry about coming home the whole trip.

We had a very pleasant experience with flying with DS to the Dominican Republic in January.
I think DS hates being constrained in a car seat more than being on a plane because on a plane, he can move and hang out on your lap. We played the Wiggles for him and he was a happy camper.

I am not interested in flying with Sasha-- so I vote for Lake George.
Jamaica is HOOOOOT in the summer. My SIL got married the end of July there and it was BRUTAL.

I've done both and I have to say that I love both places in the summer! The only thing I'd say is that if somewhere like Lake George or Maine is somewhere you'd really like visit, then Summer is the time to go. You can pretty much go to the caribbean any time of the year!

LAKE GEORGE!!! We're going up for a week in Aug (as we do every year- 1st time with DD) and can't wait. Our family has gone up for 30 years and the kids have such a great time (my cousins and I have all gone up at different times/ ages). I love how it's laid back & relaxing and not too crowded.

I think during the summer I'd rather do Lake George or Maine....just feels more "summer vacation" to me...I agree with others who said save the tropical vacation for the cold months.

Maybe we should just stick to Lake George after all.
I've always enjoyed flying south for the winter. Thing is that I hope to be knocked up by this winter. If my second pregnancy is anything like my first, I will be out of commission.

Having been to the Caribbean during the summer and to Lake George, my vote would be for Maine, Nantucket, or Cape Cod.

Us too!! My Dad grew up going there every year which was a tradition they kept when my brother and I were born and since I met my husband 13 years ago, we have tried to go every year. In June we are going with my brother and his wife and are so excited to carry on this tradition with DD! It is SO laid back and relaxing and I think those that grew up going there are the only ones that truly love it there. We took friends a few years back and they hated it...I think they were expecting it to be a lot more then it is...we feel a sense of "home" when we go back there. We are also taking DD to Disney in October so we will get to experience the stress of a flight as well :)

When DS was 17 months we went to St John and I was preggo with #2
I am so glad we went there with him--it was awesome
go to the Caribean!!

I'd pick Lake George with a toddler -- I find it so much more relaxing to have my car loaded up with all the gear I could possibly need and good medical care available in case of an emergency.

HHMM, this is a tough one! I'm all for the Caribbean, but not really in the summer. It's too hot, especially with a toddler or baby, but that's JMO. Lake George is awesome, I've been there twice!

ditto. Carribean for adults, for sure. But there is also a big price difference between Lake George & Carribean

ITA.
We tend to do a "local" summer vacation and then head to a warmer destination (Caribbean or Mexico) sometime in December or January.

It's HOT but I would rather go to the Caribbean than Lake George. I went to Lake George last year for like 4 day and we were bored! I would much rather a Caribbean vacation!
