Student Loan rates- Help!

I heard that the rates are going up! I have two loans through Citibank Student Loan- a Sattford and a Stafford Plus Loan- seperate loans. I also have one through Queens College- through Direct Loan services. Can I consolodate all three of them onto one bill. Which company should I use.. I am on a time Limit now because of COURSE I am a procrastinator!!!!!

Re: Student Loan rates- Help!

I consolidated my federal loans through the federal government and got an EXTREMELY low rate, and was able to extend the life of the loan. I think my rate is about %2.5 - for about $60k of loans, I end up paying $140 per month (not bad!) ... I tried to consolidate my private loan with it but they wouldn't let me, so I just opened a zero interest credit card and will pay it off within a year. I have a friend who consolidated everything together under one private company, but the interest rate wasn't as good - around %5, and she couldn't extend the life of the loan. She's paying about $350 a month for the same amount of loans. Just something to think about... might be more convenient, but it may end up costing more in the end. I would call a few places and inquire (i.e. Fannie Mae, Access, and the federal loan providers)... see what your options are.

I think the plus and stafford loans you could consolidate through the federal government because they are federal loans, even though you got them through citibank. The one you have froma direct loan service probably can't be consolidated together with them if you opt to consolidate through the government...
