Spinoff to sunscreen post.. Do you/have you used sunscreen on your DD/DS under 6 months?

I wasn't using it, since it states not to use until child is 6 months. Well, when I went for DS 2 month appt. the doctor told me I could use sunscreen, and that the baby SFP was safe. I bought baby neutrogena and have used it twice. Now I read that it is not safe. I would keep long sleeves and pants on DS but he gets so hot.
Which sunscreen is the safest?

I did.

My son is very fair and we were going to Florida for a beach vacation in July.

I'd rather use sunscreen then risk him getting burned. JMHO

My ped told me to use Waterbabies

My ped said it was fine to use before 6 months. We went to Florida when DS was 3.5 months and we used aveeno baby. I also have california baby but it does not absorb into the skin so well. It stays white and you really have to to work it into the skin.

That's exactly what my pediatrician said. So, yes I used sunscreen on my DD probably when she was around 3 mos--we were taking a beach vacation.

Us too. We used sunscreen on DD last year when she was about 3/4 months.

we didn't... but then again, DS was a sept baby, and there was no need....

by far, california baby is the least harmful sunscreen. check cosmeticdatabase.com... you'll be shocked what's in many baby sunscreens Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to sunscreen post.. Do you/have you used sunscreen on your DD/DS under 6 months?

I started at 6 months but only b/c DD was that age when the warm weather started. When I told my ped at the 6 month visit he said, ohh you could have used it before 6 months if you needed too, its better than babies getting a sunbun.

Re: Spinoff to sunscreen post.. Do you/have you used sunscreen on your DD/DS under 6 months?

My ped told me to use CVS brand right from the beginning- every day before we go outside. However, DS would break out- he told me just to try it again, but I dont use it. I always have a hat on DS and never have him in direct sunlight. Frankly, i am not worried about him getting a sunburn because i keep him in shade and I am worried about his skin reactions (DH has very sensitive skin and Ds is a lot like him)

I specifically asked and the ped said it was fine. They will be 5 months tomorrow. I got them blue lizard baby sunscreen.

ETA: ds has EXTREMELY sensitive skin, and he was perfectly fine, no reaction!

I did not. I tried to keep DS out of the sun from 10-4 in the summer.

I have not used it yet. He is 4 1/2 months. His skin is very sensitive so I'll wait.

We live where its sunny all the time but I have only used it once when we were in the desert and he was in the sun all day.
We used Nutragenia Free and Pure Baby- it only contains Zinc Oxide so it's very safe.

I would use California Baby on a baby that young if you do use it.

Aveeno rankings are not that good: Baby Sunscreen Ratings

ETA: My DD was born late last May and I didn't use sunblock on her last summer. I kept her indoors during peak hours and then out of the direct sun when we were out.

Re: Spinoff to sunscreen post.. Do you/have you used sunscreen on your DD/DS under 6 months?

I had read that before 6 months their liver has a hard time processing sunscreen-so no. I keep them out of the sun/shaded, wear long pants, ro throw a blanket over their legs if absolutely necessary. BUT they just turned 6 mos so I will probably use CA Baby

I used a little on DS when he was 5 months last year when we were out in the direct sun for awhile. I used California Baby.

I did hear that about liver processing, but I figured he was close to 6 months, and I would rather take a slight chance with that than let him get a burn. Most of the time though, I just kept him covered.
