Spin-off to Old Things - What is the first big historical event you remember?

I vividly remember the Challenger. I must have been in 4th grade ... my 3rd grade teacher was one of the finalists to be the teacher on board. They wheeled TVs into our classrooms to show the take-off ... so we all watched it as it happened. Chat Icon

I totally remember the Challenger--I was in 7th grade. I also vaguely remember when President Reagan was shot...that's probably the earliest historical thing I can remember off the top of my head.

Off the top of my head, the Challenger explosion came to mind. I also remember my Irish parents speaking a lot about the hunger strikers in Ireland in the early 80's.

I also rememeber the Mondale-Reagan election. It was such a big deal that Geraldine Ferraro (a woman) was a candidate for VP.

The fall of the Berlin Wall. I didn't really fully understand the significance of it at the time. I just remember watching it on TV with my parents. There was something about it - something about the way people were just tearing down that wall that made me think, even as a kid, that all things were possible.

I know that sounds cheesy, but it is totally true.

I really don't remember the Challenger explosion. We didn't watch the launch in school. I'm sure if we had, I'd remember it. I was 7 then, so you think I would remember it.

I remember the Berlin Wall, Baby Jessica rescue, Desert Storm, etc.

When Reagan was shot (1981). I was in 3rd grade. It was huge because his press secretary (??) James Brady was also shot. That was my dad's name, and well, as a 3rd grader, everyone thought it was my dad Chat Icon (I have to admit I thought so too because my dad was NYPD and I assumed he was protecting the President. Hey, I was 8 Chat Icon ).

The Challenger - I was in 8th grade and we were watching it on TV while we practiced typing on the Apple IIe's.

Reagan shooting would be the first. My dads death would be second and Challenger explosion would be third.
