sorry guys...more vitamin concerns

i switched to just 800 mg of folic acid since my doctor said it was ok but i am kind of concerned about how much nutrients my baby will be getting Chat Icon i'm going to my doctor next week and i want to discuss what i can take in addition to my folic acid supplements. many of you take flinestone vitamins which sounds great but i don't want to take it upon myself you know? idk does just taking the folic acid seem unsafe to you ladies? i'm confused Chat Icon

definitely talk to your Dr. I know taking too much vit A is bad, so when taking a multivitamin that's not a prenatal, you have to look out for the amount of Vit A.

You're not taking a prenatal vit. becuase of stomach issues?

I've heard from many moms that prescription prenatals are frequently more Chat Icon than OTC. Also, certain brands (both prescription and OTC) turn tummies much more than others.

maybe you should ask for samples of several prenatal vit's from your OB, and see which brands don't make you sick?

that is definitely not too much folic acid. I take alot more than that ( I have some problems) and I take almost 5 mg. per day.

You will probably get a rx for a standard prenatal vitamin at your dr. appt. There are also chewable ones in the pharmacy.

I had pretty bad morning sickness and wasn't taking the prenatals for a while. I am feeling better now and have started taking them again when I can. Sometime the pill just makes me gag for no apparent reason! I was told I could take flinstones also. Just check with you dr. I am sure they will say that is fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much!

I agree, that is not too much folic acid, but you need to take some other kind of prenatal vitamin to get the other nutrients. Your doctor will want to make sure you are not taking a combined amount too high.

I take 4mg of folic acid a day because of a problem I encountered.

Usually pg people take .4 of a mg. (which equals 400 mcg) I take 10 times that amount.

Just make sure you doctor knows what you are taking...and don't take anything before your doctor ok's it. Every doctor is different.
