uh oh!!

looks like a sort manager (one step lower from senior manager) has been having an inappropriate relationship with someone who reports to him.

yikes.

let the internal HR investigations begin. these investigations never end well.

So my boss started dating someone who reports to him but he was smart because before he did anything he went to his boss and asked to get this girl transferred to report directly to him instead (boss's boss) and checked with HR and corporate on the policy.
Smart way to do it.
They are in a long term relationship now and it's all good.
But yeah, you have to go about things the right way when it comes to your direct reports. yikes

I married my boss. I think that things are getting a little out of hand with not allowing relationships in the workplace. If we had worked for a large company I could see having to report the relationship to HR but I was a big girl and knew what I was getting into. I actually started looking for a new job once we started dating anyway but it took me 8 or 9 months before I actually found one.

sadly, that's the thing. not many people act like grown ups when a relationship isn't perfect. i've only worked here three years, and i've already seen how things can go sideways when someone doesn't get what they want from a relationship.

ps. i met SO at work. neither of us reported to the other, but i did control his day and the jobs assigned to him. from the day we had our first real date, i told him to tell the owner so there wouldn't be any confusion. he did. we worked together for almost two years before i left and started working here.
we'll be celebrating our 5th anniversary, next month.

They are going to fire someone over that? I doubt it. Two consenting adults? Someone may get reprimanded and the other may have to change reporting structure, but unless it's strictly against company policy or someone acted illegally, this tends to be more of a slap on the wrist.

it is strictly against company policy. especially for the two positions these people have within the company.

i hope no one gets fired, but it's looking that way... just from the little bit that's come to light today.
