I am a Marketing Director at an Architectural Firm and I must say I am more than pleased with my salary. However, I have someone in my dept. who is Mid-level and is making over $55K and others who are entry level making $40k.

The marketing industry is very competitive and sometimes does not pay well depending on which area of marketing you are interested in. DH niece will be graduating College this month and based on the advice that she receives from me and one of her marketing professor she is going into Media buying which pays decently because not alot of marketing people want to deal with figures. Also with Media Buying you can work your way up the ladder very quickly.

You just have to keep looking for the right position and the right companies to work for. There are Marketing companies out there that pays very decently it is just a matter of luck sometimes.

If you have alot experience and is very qualifed you should be making above $50K do not sell yourself short to these companies. Sometimes it is best to find jobs on your own than using agencies or head hunters. Remember alot of agencies and head hunters works in favor of the companies.
