In Nassau you will only be paying 4 5/8% as opposed to 8 5/8%....Suffolk is no tax at all.

Tax Free Week

During the seven day period beginning Tuesday, August 30, 2005 through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2005, clothing and footwear costing less than $110 per item or pair will be exempt from New York State sales tax as well as most county and city sales taxes. Sales tax will be imposed on these items in both Nassau County and Westchester County during this week.

Beginning September 1, 2005 a year-round exemption from the New York City local 4% sales tax imposed on clothing and footwear costing less than $110 per item or pair will take effect. Once the sales tax-free week concludes, effective September 6, 2005 the sales tax imposed on purchases in New York City of clothing and footwear costing less than $110 will become 4.375%.

A second sales tax-free week is slated for Monday, January 30, 2006 through Sunday, February 5, 2006.
