Small Pity Party

Seems that all my major life events alway have some drama attached (usually a result of my mom). So today DH and I went out and registered and then went to Behrs to look at baby furniture. When we came home I asked her opinion about the three different sets we liked and she had a negative opinion about all three...you dont want an armoire...the color is too light....if it is not a solid wood back than its a piece of crap....Chat Icon then she moved on to the registry...she wanted to know why the nursing pillow was on there...i told her I was still undecided whether I was going to BF or not but put it on there anyway...here is a direct quote from my mom...."Under no circumstances should you breastfeed....it is GROSS."Chat Icon I was basicially done with the conversation at that point. Now I just feel kinda sad. I still am undecided with regard to BF but not because I think its GROSS. Now I feel like if I pick this option its going to make me uncomfortable to do it in her presence or when she's around. Personally I think she should have kept this opinion to herself.Chat Icon

I am so sorry your mom is like that-but this is your time and you worked so hard to get here, so you deserve to enjoy it and you have a right to BF if that is what you want...don't listen to your mother, she is a buzz kill! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Wow, sorry but that is very rude, especially about the breastfeeding comment! Chat Icon Chat Icon

What is wrong w/her, I mean no offense, but why would she be so mean? It sounds like she is very opinionated but putting in her 2cents when you didn't ask for it.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that....ultimately you are the parent and you make the best decision you're comfortable with....she will have to get over it. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ugh...that really stinks!! What a way to ruin a fun day. I say get whatever furniture you love...it's for your child...not hers!! as far as the BF comment...I don't even know what to say to that. I'm sure you know it's in no way gross. Don't let her stop you from making that decision!!Chat Icon

Re: Small Pity Party

Wow - I am really sorry that she had those comments for you. Whether you decide to BF or not, please don't let one person's feelings sway you. Make the decision that is right for you and your child.
As for the furniture, most designers are unfortunately using more and more particle board for their support/backing. If you feel comfortable, you could always say to her well if you feel that strongly about having all wood then perhaps you want to pay for it.
