I think that people have lost the ability to properly assess risk.
With vaccines available to the majority of the population, including school aged children, its time to end masking in schools.

Masks are causing a host of learning delays in children, especially those with special needs. Its not necessary at this point. Cloth masks especially are useless, its just theater.

I hate hearing the "kids are resilient" mantra over and over. I don't want my kids to have to be resilient anymore. 2 years in, people have the tools to protect themselves and I can make the choices that work for my family.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon especially the resilient part. No, it's not a child's responsibility to safeguard adults and it never was. This is the definition of insanity. I feel so bad for these kids. They only have a small window of childhood and they've already sacrificed 2 years of it. Enough with this nonsense already.

Honestly, I don't even think this is true. Kids aren't that resilient, i think they are more prone to keep things inside because either they don't know how to verbalize their feelings or process the emotion/action. It doesn't mean they aren't impacted or that trauma isn't happening to them that may resurface later on.

Hence why so many adults end up in therapy.

This exactly! I just said pretty much the same thing Chat Icon.

That's my point too- kids shouldn't be having to keep adults safe.
Before the vaccine it was- oh well little Johnny can pass it to an adult who is more at risk. 3 vaccines later I don't want to hear that shit anymore
It's not a child's job to bear the burden of protecting adults.
Go protect yourself and leave the kids out of it

100% agree. Adults are responsible for their own health. Full stop. They always have been. There's a vaccine now (as ineffective as it is at actually curbing the spread, this is what they're choosing to stick with so deal, Suzanne). If you need the protection, get vaccinated. Get all the vaccines. Wear 3 masks if you feel you have to. Social distance if you need to. If that's not enough, stay home. Build a bunker. Move to Peru and live in a grass hut off the grid. Do what YOU have to to protect YOURSELF. But stop torturing kids. Saying kids are resilient is trying to make yourself, the adult, feel better about the torture these kids are experiencing. Kids locked outside in freezing temperatures, eating off the floor like dogs?? How is that protecting you, Suzanne?? Adults wouldn't stand for being treated like this, but it's ok to treat kids like this because they're kids?! If they're so worried about curbing the spread, maybe the school staff should be eating lunch silently off the ground outside in freezing temps with no coats. I hear it's hard to catch outside. If you're worried about catching a disease from kids, maybe it's time to find a new profession. Kids have ALWAYS been walking little snot rags. Double masking them won't change that.

I'm so over this shit. STOP TRAUMATIZING KIDS!!! JUST STOP AND GET SOME MENTAL HELP!!!

10000% this!!!! This is exactly what I wanted to say but COULDN'T VERBALIZE it myself as an adult!!! You said it perfectly and better than I ever can! Thank you! These kids are NOT resilient. They're traumatized. Who TF knows what lasting affect these past 2 years will have on these kids in the future? NOBODY KNOWS!! Get ready to pay for therapy later on people!! We already have "covid babies" needing therapy for anxiety and speech issues. BABIES with anxiety! All the past 2 years has done is ensure a lifetime of PTSD and internalized issues on the youngest generation. Get ready for it!

And all for a disease with a 99% survival rate.
Can you imagine if a real disease ever got here? Something like Ebola?
Game.Over.

Don’t u dare to say that number! There are still people that don’t like to hear it, and cover their ears with their hands whenever someone mentions the survival rate. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Are the schools delusional to think we are living like this at home?
Not seeing anyone, eating in silence because speaking is bad, staying 6 feet apart from people, not travelling, not seeing friends, not eating in restaurants, not gathering with family?
I think about all the stuff we do on the weekends and I think about my DD having constant sleepovers with her friends where 3 of them share a full sized bed and sleep next to each other! And we don't even covid test before or after! OMG!
OMG Hochul would shit her pants!!!
What would the Superintendent think?

And then this weekend we had birthday cake that someone blew on and we all ate it like crazy psychopaths and I ran around in a dirty gauze mask that I can blow a candle out when wearing and kept pulling it off my face once inside the store and I ate in 3 restaurants and was standing at a bar with no mask on! And I got really crazy and walked from the bar to the bathroom with no mask on because I love to live on the edge like that! Chat Icon

Then I send her back to school on Monday in a mask and she's sitting 6 feet apart and kids are eating lunch on the floor like animals and we play this little game of safety. Don't speak while eating. Until Saturday. Then all bets are off.

Yeah ok.

Can I be your best friend?! Chat Icon

LOL yes!
Come over, we can eat some birthday cake that has been blown on and discuss which Etsy seller makes the thinnest, most see through compliance masks. Chat Icon

Fantastic!! Sounds like a blast

Simple poll about masks on children at school.

Well, they revised our lunch policy - they can eat at their desks now. So they can only eat with those in their class and since they are three feet apart, they are subject to quarantine.

Lovely. I think eating on the floor was gross but like I said, I didn't complain as it kept my kid in school, where last year at this time he was only in school 2 days a week at 8 years old... He graduated to 3 days at the end of Feb and 5 days in April. He was full remote for Thanksgiving to the week after New Years as well.

Re: Simple poll about masks on children at school.

Here’s my little personal story of covid hell. Catholic school nyc…I got covid Christmas break, doing the right thing I report to school my 2 kids have been exposed. Kids have zero symptoms. Household contact -no testing out early. Shared the same bathroom -they get 20 days of quarantine(10 days of my exposing them plus 10 days of their quarantine)…ok great, they can go back 1/28/22 tues after mlk…go to school 3 days, Friday am get call my older dd exposed can’t come to school…kid is hysterical…younger dd can go to school. Mon 1/24 younger dd wakes up with fever, bring both to get tested younger is +, older is negative. Inform school…tells me + dd can go back to school on 2/1/22 with md clearance and no symptoms but negative dd still cant test out early due to home contact but this time they are living on separate floors because I learned my lesson-she can’t go back till the 3rd. The kicker? Call Pediatrician to make appt for younger dd for clearance-they won’t see her until the 3rd! What guidance are we following? Is the cdc not good enough anymore? I don’t get it and all I keep thinking is who’s paying my family’s psychiatry bills after all this because I am not ok and I definitely see my older dd is not ok. So all said and done my older dd has gone to school 3 days since Christmas break until 2/3 and younger only 4 day…oh and no remote learning so just doing posted assignments. This is not acceptable.

On topic-My opinion on masks-they don’t bother me, but if everyone is getting quarantined if not wearing them then I will have to say keep them. I’m about ready to email principal to make sure my older dd remains in contact only with those she’s already been exposed to because she’s been quarantined an awful lot for someone who hasn’t tested + yet..at least younger one has a quarantine pass for 90 days now. Ah the things that bring me joy now!

ETA-I see nyc finally adopted the new cdc guidelines effective 1/31/22, that's why the school gave me that date, older one still gets 10...guess I need to call pediatrician to clarify.

Alll of this! This has absolutely effected the kids ALL of them in one way or another. Also since when did it become acceptable to have HEALTHY kids do things to protect adults?? My 5 YO shouldn't have to do something because some idiot somewhere passed a useless mandate that has done nothing to help this pandemic. WTFFF we are in upside down world RN. TBH I'm scared of all the psychological and health issues that are going to come out down the road from this excessive mask wearing.

For those of us who remember 9/11 I remember our govt saying the air was safe to breathe and yet here we are 20+ years later treating people with 9/11 related cancers.

I’m all for choice however I’m 99% sure quarantine rules will change and more kids will have to quarantine. This would be the on,yreason why I would want masks to be worn.

Granted my kids right now don’t have to quarantine for 90 days but what I want to see is quarantines go away or being able to test out of quarantines!

I agree 100000000%
now one of the elementary schools in my district quarantined two whole classes because of the maskless Tuesday. Two positive kids took out a total of 30 people! Whole classes haven’t been quarantined since last school year from a positive case.
This is my biggest fear. If the schools ever go parental choice with masks then the quarantining bs needs to go away.
Kids with masks all day vs no mask and having the risk of being quarantined multiple times because that is what is gonna happen
It’s a no win situation and it sucks

ETA: because not all the kids in the classes were wearing masks that is why they quarantined them all.
