Silly question about ducks..and having them in your yard as pets..
Do you need a permit or anything?
One house I am going to see on Saturday has a pond in backyard.
I'd love to have some ducks but not sure if this is realistic or allowed or possible.
Anyone know?

I don't know about permits or whatever, but I'd be concerned with them getting aggressive with kids.
I worked for a company on LI that had a pond in front of the building. There were geese and ducks in it. When they had laid eggs the males were very aggressive about protecting the females and the eggs they would chase people who were coming in and out of the building, quite a few people fell running from them, one person was hurt so badly they needed an ambulance.

Most larger birds are aggressive. I used to work at Southaven Park, and the ducks, geese, and especially swans are VERY aggressive. They would jump/fly into the boats people were renting if they thought or knew there was food there.
The smaller ducks shouldn't be as aggressive as the larger birds, though.
If someone comes by and asks if you have a permit, just say "They just flew here... "

I wouldn't want duck in the back because of all the poop in the yard.

you would have to check with the town for codes. You might need a certain amount of space to build an enclosure from your neighbors yard.
about three blocks away is a public park from our house and those houses have running water going through their yards and therefore have wildlife. Their ducks are rather nice - geese on the other hand are evil. As children my friends who lived there had the ducks as pets but not as a perm. residence.

When I was a kid I used to watch my neighbors duck when they went away. They kept him in a large cage so that other animals like raccoons couldn't hurt him.

we have a small stream right behind our property, so we have a lot of wildlife including ducks. But I don't think I would want them in my yard. Though they did fly into our pool a couple of times. It was cute.....but we were not in the pool at the time. So you might have ducks in your yard anyway because of the pond.
