Should I seat children with their parents or at a kids table for DDs Christening?

I have about 12 or so kids coming to DDs Christening. I dont know if should seat them together, or with their parents. What are the odds they will really sit anyway?

Tables have to be no larger than 8 people and some families are large, so if I seat them with their kids, there may not be any adults at their table other than each other and that to me seems boring for the parents.

Any suggestions? Not doing table arrangements isn't an option. Range of ages are 2-13.

I would put the younger ones with their parents (those under age 8), and put the ones ages 8-13 at a table together.

Why not let them choose where/who to sit with. I was going to have a kids table but I think especially wtih the younger kids the parents want/need to sit with them so the kids table didnt happen the way I planned.

I'd love to hear people's input on this as well since I will likely have the same issue.

I am leaning towards putting the kids together (they will mostly be cousins) and having coloring books/games/etc for them to play with. I did this at my parents anniversary party and it worked well and the parents got to enjoy themselves.

I too have seen this at family parties. The kids come to sit on their parents laps anyway. I think a kids table is out.

I just feel bad that with the larger families, the parents won't have any other adults at the table to socialize with. Thats my main concern. But not doing table seating at the parties I have been to is always a mess IMO.

I think 5/6+ would be fine sitting at a kids table. I would say younger children should def. be seated with parents.

Re: Should I seat children with their parents or at a kids table for DDs Christening?

well for my first daughter we had the kids sit at a kids table what a mess- I put the teenagers together and they all just sat there with pusses on their face and the smaller kids the parents wound up getting up to feed them and I felt like thier dinner was interrupted
so this time for second DD's christening I put the kids with their families and it was soooooooooo much better.
but I did have the place put out another table with no settings and made it the craft table and put a ton of crafts, toys and candy on that table with a balloon cp and the kids enjoyed that, they went to it at their leisure.

This is what I was thinking of doing, with no table settings, etc. Thanks for telling your experience, my mind is made up, no kids table.Chat Icon

My friend did something like this. There was enough room at the tables if the parents wanted the kids with them - but the kids could also eat at the other table. I had my 2 yr old sit with us but my 4 & 6 yr olds sat to eat at the craft table. They had a large space though and the craft table was large so I don't know if that's an option for you if the craft table is small. I wouldn't put the candy on the table though with endless access for the kids.

thats what the kids did too, ate the craft table too. we had a large room and the table I had them set up would sit 12 adults so it was plenty big for the little ones. as far as the candy it was foiled wrapped candy just 2 bags of it scattered on the table wasnt a ton of candy mainly to help decorate the table. but I had a ton of crafts and toys for all ages and small bags so the kids can take them home too if they wanted too.
