Should I be concerned that his head falls forward in the car seat?

I have a newborn. We had the car seat installed and it shows it's at the right incline. But his head keeps dropping forward and it's freaking me out. I'm afraid he's going to choke with the straps so close to his dangly head. It looks uncomfy and dangerous. We even have the snuzzler in now and it just stops him from falling to the side. He still falls forward. Is it okay? What am I doing wrong? Do I just deal with it? TIA!!!!

I thought you weren't supposed to use the snuzzler b/c it affects how the straps lay?

Is this an infant seat? It used to have to DS, but he'd only stay like that for a few minutes then move it backChat Icon

I did this, doubled the head piece which then holds the head in place.

My DD has a small noggin...it kept flopping over too. Still uses the two.

Re: Should I be concerned that his head falls forward in the car seat?

I don't get it. It's an infant seat and my baby has a big head. He was 11lbs. 8 oz at birth. His head already measured 41 weeks when he was only 34. But the 'head support' that came with the infant seat was nowhere close to his head, inches away. He fell everywhere with it. Now, with the snuzzler he doesn't fall side to side. But he does fall forward at times. I've watched him pick his head up a few times, but other times he struggles. Or am I imagining it?

Homemade? I've tried rolling a towel, but he still falls forward. Am I an idiot?

My seat said it was installed correctly as well but we put a rolled up towel under the front of it, problem was solved!

I went to a car saftey seat check at NS Plainview hospital and they said not to use anything that didnt come with the car seat. But you could us a receiving blanket, by rolling it and they making it wrap around the head to help support it. The ones in the store go around the head but also go behind the head and behind the head is the part thats not approved. b/c the car seat was not tested with that.

We used the kiddopatamus for DS, and also make sure that the chest buckle is high enough. It should be even with DCs armpits when latched.

Do you have the base in the right position as well? DH discovered when DS was about 4 weeks that we could recline the infant seat a bit in the base.

Are you making the straps tight enough ? And properly on his shoulders? And the latch should be up around his upper chest area ( NOT near his belly) ....

His head shouldnt fall forward.

Kelly you may also want to buy the little padded covers that go over the straps...they are a bit bulky & may help keep his head up as well. They are 5 or 6. & they have them at Walmart or BRU & I'm sure all over.

I was going to say this too. Do the straps start over his shoulder? I had a big baby too, and I had to put the straps in the second slot because he was too big in the first one. Also, double check the chest latch and make sure it's in the middle of his chest (in line with his arm pits). I really don't think you need any of those other accessories. Steven's head never fit in them anyway, so I wouldn't go spending the money on them.

We had to do the same thing. DD's head was flopping to the front and it was freaking me out.

Re: Should I be concerned that his head falls forward in the car seat?

DD's head used to do this too even with the straps up high. Once she turned 3 months old we got one of those things that snug around the neck and give support- best thing we ever did. Her neck used to lean forward a lot that it was almost at her thighs. I wish we did it sooner like 8 weeks. He is a big boy I am sure its ok to use. Chat Icon

Re: Should I be concerned that his head falls forward in the car seat?

Is it on a base? Try raising the base up a level and see if it helps. That will lean the seat back more. Just make sure it's still level in the "window" or whatever mechanism your seat has.
