should I ask for a new service coordinator?

Or is this normal time wise?

We decided to use one through the agency vs the state.

She came over once to visit us, and then called us 2x's..once before the visit, once after.

Then I never heard from her...although I had no need to either....

I was trying to look into a speech based program for Sept for Noah...And she happened to call and leave me a message. She said, Oh I had the baby and everything is good. ( I didnt even know she was PG or on leave? ) ...No big deal though.

SO she called me to go over possible groups. Now she really doesnt know my child at all as she has met him for 15 mins. she offered to go with me to see some places, I asked her to find out about the places and I would rather go with our Parent Trainer as she sees Noah weekly but she was too going on Maternity leave ( and now DID already)...and could she move things along.

There was a series of phone calls while she called me about places, had very very limited info on them, would say she would look into them and yet never gave me any more info. ( she would call and say, I see theres a place in west islip, I know nothing about them...I will look into them...not even sure why she called to tell me she had no info? )

I also let her know that there were two programs I would PAY for that if he didnt get an EI program, I needed to enroll him ASAP in one of these, there were limited spots left.

OK. Long story short. She says she calls one place we were interested in and they are gonna call me.

3 WEEKS goes by, no call. I call her back again asking whats up. ( I NEVER get her on the phone, its always a 3 day game of phone waiting till she calls me back or plays phone tag) ...She says I will call them again...That was 2 weeks ago now?

Now I lost spots in BOTH other programs in the meantime.

BTW....while all this was going on she was suppossed to be advising me on Noahs upcoming testing( she didnt, its done with) , And I have asked her 3x's when the next meeting is, she never answers me , I also asked her to find out when our parent trainer was being replaced, she never answered me, ( she leave me Vm's cause she calls me back at th e worst time)...

So that was long, but SHE IS THE ONE I go to to ask for a replacement of someone, yet I feel like she is not the best person for us?

Is this the normal level of involvement, or should I just ask for someone else.

I cannot imagine needing their assistance too often, but when I do , waiting a month and losing opportunities annoys me!

How annoying!! I would def. get a new one! Especially so you can start looking at these programs NOW! Can you call the director of the agency to request a new coordinator, that way you don't have to deal with "confrontation" with the current one?

that is ridiculous! i'd def. ask for someone new immediately. just call her agency and ask for the supervisor.

my coordinator always calls back withing 1-2 hours, she calls just to see how things are going and if i need anything, she's always on top of everything and gets things done and if she can't she gets her supervisor to help. my last coordinator who left the agency was the same.

Re: should I ask for a new service coordinator?

this is a little off the main point of the post.. but if you like a school and you're not sure if you will need it or not. talk to them.

we had the same situation, not sure if we were getting a fall placement for school, but afriad of getting closed out while we waited. we found a place we liked, spoke ot them. they said they would take our deposit to hold the spot, but it would be totally refundable if we did get the special ed class we were waiting on. they assured us it wasn't a problem, as they always get last minute poeple wanting spots, so if they let us go, they'd still be able to fill the spot. something to consider while waiting, speak to the schools and see if you could do something like that.
