short term disability help
ok, so the hospital where I work told me they would pay STD at NY state rate - 170 a week for maternity leave. Union will then pay me 70% of pay. however, the lady on the phone at the union told me it takes 6-8 weeks for hospital to process, and then they will start paying too. however, the HR at the hospital told me i can't file until after i have baby, and i will only be out for 6 weeks.
I will call HR at hospital tomorrow, but does this sound right - about the processing? does this mean I won't be paid while i'm out, but get additional money once i'm back (since i'm only taking 6 weeks? ) really confused here

hmm that seems like a long amount of time. My company has you prefill out paperwork and when you deliver I believe the paperwork is then submitted however I have never heard it take 6-8 weeks...
