Vanilla or chocolate?

DH and are debating. He says most people prefer vanilla. I say most people just like cake.

Which do you prefer?

Re: Settle a cake flavor battle

Vanilla cake, chocolate frosting.

Too many chocolate cakes have zero flavor. If they are made right, I’d go chocolate on Chocolate all day but to be safe - vanilla w chocolate frosting is my go to

If there are fudgy brownies available, they win lol

ETA: and now I want cake. Thanks

Vanilla cake as the base, varied toppings. Chocolate ganache, whipped cream, fruit.
Chocolate cake is difficult to get good flavor. I've baked a lot of duds.

Re: Settle a cake flavor battle

I’m not a cake person, but when I do it’s usually something vanilla like that I prefer. Fillings vary.

The only time I’ll have chocolate is if there is a Black Forest cake.

I worked in a bakery for a few years and most of the time people ordered vanilla.

You guys are killing me I hate telling DH he’s right!

I like both. I agree that chocolate is easier to mess up, though the bakery I use makes an amazing chocolate cake.

The only cake I absolutely wont eat is ice cream cake. I hate it. But I’ll shovel whatever regular cake is handed to me right down my gullet.

I worked in catering and most people went with a yellow cake with white buttercream. Filling typically chocolate or strawberry.

Vanilla. I love chocolate in most forms, but I don't like chocolate cake.

We get it from Ariola bakery in Farmingdale. They make a delicious one!

Re: Settle a cake flavor battle

Since we are on the subject of cake....one thing I always hated was the old school bakery style cakes with that gross, sweet, "fruit" filling. It's like fruit jelly or jam or more accurately, goo.
Sickeningly sweet, never tastes like the actual "fruit", just sweet and nasty.
That ruins a cake for me.
I like plain, simple cake with icing!

Uggh, yes. So gross. Chocolate pudding filling is almost equally as gross. Most of the time the actual cake is just okay regardless of the flavor so it's all about the filling or frosting for me.

Chocolate cake, homemade, (preferably from scratch ??) with marshmallow icing. My own personal holy grail. Chat Icon

Ugh pudding filling is equally disgusting. Something like a King Kullen bakery would make for a sheet cake. Ughhh
