Repost from Families Helping Families. Yeast Infections?? Need Help!!

Hopefully this doesn't get moved. I didn't get a lot of replies where I 1st posted this and I could really use some advice. I figured this is a much more popular board on here.

I seem to get them about twice a year, which for those of you who get them know is two way too many! My doctor said that amount is pretty much normal, depending on each women and their medical history of course.

But I want to know what I am doing wrong and what I can do to stop them completely. I know plenty of women who have never gotten a yeast infection in their lives!

I try to eat yogurt regularly for the good bacteria, I wear cotton panties, I am not diabetic and don't have HIV which can cause yeast infections. I don't douche. I don't think that I eat that much sugar, but I have been trying even harder to cut back on sugars if it will save me from this hell. I can't imagine why I get them.

Here is my question, if you used to get them but have figured out how to defend your self against them, what is your secret? Also, it's hard to get a doc appt. when they are telling you they have nothing for a day or two but you need relief NOW! Have you found an over the counter that REALLY works and cures it, not just masks it? Please give me any advice you have, I want to stop getting them.

Thank you so much for any advice you can give!!

i ONLY get them when im on antibiotics...but EVERY TIME im on antibiotics..the ONLY thing that helps me is Diflucan. And it isnt over the counter..but maybe you can get your OB or PCP to give you an RX with a few refills on it, explaining to them that youre getting them more often then youd like lol

this is too much info, but i get them often, more than 4x a yr. for me it can happen with stress, after you knowChat Icon, after my period or before it. it totally sucks. i dont have an answer, but youre not alone. i drink alot of water, eat yogurt, dont have any other health issues. i am going to get a diabetes check b.c. it runs in my family and i did read that that could be a cause too. i am trying to find an ob/gyn who is more aware of what to do, so any suggestion?

etd to add that diflucan for me is not enough anymore. i go to the office everytime to really make sure. taking diflucan when you dont have one is not good.

I get them every other month...if I'm lucky...I don't have any serious medical conditions, that's just the way it is...my doctor can't help me...we've tried EVERYTHING! I think that it has to do with my weight though...and I;m not THAT overweight...I think if I dropped 15-20 lbs. that it would get better. It has in the past. But every woman is different, and you have to watch your diet.

I get them pretty frequently as well. Maybe 3-4 times per year. And I'm finding that I am getting them more often now that I have had DS 7 month ago. I've already had 3 since he was born. I've gotten them since I was a kid and they usually happen now if I am under a lot of stress, sometimes after "the deed", or if I wear a panitliner (which I don't really anymore). Sometimes they happen for no good reason at all. To prevent them I keep myself well "groomed" down there and we usually only do "the deed" after we have taken a shower (if possible and not a spontaneous moment). As soon as I feel one coming on I eat a ton of yogurt throughout the day and I take Acidolophous (sp?). I got these from CVS and a hospital actually recommended them to me when I was put on antibiotics for an upper resp. infection. I also wear cotton panties and NO underwear when I sleep at night. Just PJ pants. If it gets really bad then I call the dr. and get medication.

In the past I've also tried drinking red wine vinegar mixed with water. It's NASTY but it works b/c it adjusts the PH in your body. You can also apply red wine vinegar with water directly to the area....that works too but it burns for a few seconds. I've done that when it flaired up in the middle if the night and I had no choice.

This is totally me as well! I'm not overweight, diabetic, OR HIV+. I'm not that dilligent about my diet though. My Dh had to tecently be treated for one because we were passing it back and forth to each other.

This is the second time I have heard of using red wine vinegar. I think I am going to try it, why not at this point! Thanks for your help ladies. I know we can all sympathize that they are HORRIBLE!!

Same here, not over weight, diabetic or HIV+. The only thing I can think is that I can improve my eating habits. But I don't think my eating habits are that bad. I am so jealous of women who don't get them!!
