really bad cramps and back pain

I am 15 weeks. Today I woke up to REALLY bad cramps on my lower right side. I have them a little now, but not as bad as this morning. I literally wanted to cry when I got out of bed. It hurt to stand up straight. Is this normal? Should I call my dr? It's really not that bad now, but still a slight cramping.

I've always been having lower back pain..like my tailbone and above. Is that normal?

I'm a mess! lol This pregnancy thing isn't easy Chat Icon

EDIT: Called the Dr. The nurse said to try a maternity belt and it might help with the stretching and cramping. She also said to stay hydrated. She said if I get cramping 6 times within an hour to call back. It was really just BAD when I got out of bed. I will try the maternity belt!

Honestly...I give this advice ALOT...instead of asking here...you really should call your doctor.

No one on here is a doctor, so we really can't tell you if it is normal or not Chat Icon

Feel Better!
And let us know what the doctor said Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: really bad cramps and back pain

I agree with the other girls, call your doctor.

The cramps may be from stretching or even maybe you are a little dehydrated but dont take the chance.

OK. I was definitely going to call if it didn't get better. It is nothing like it was this morning. I really was going to cry when I tried standing up.

Anyone else have the back pain??

Re: really bad cramps and back pain

If the back pain continues -- I would make sure it's not a UTI. So keep an eye on it! I had AWFUL back pain at one point and finally went to the doctor and I had a bad UTI that needed antibiotics.

If you stay hydrated and the cramps and back pain stop, you should be just fine. But if they continue, call the doc back.

Thanks. Any other signs it's a UTI? I am going to the dr next week for blood work so I can ask to check for that if it doesn't get better.

For me the back pain was waking me up at night and was low. When I called the doc, they had me come in for monitoring to ensure it wasn't contractions, and they tested my urine and said it came up positive for the UTI.

Other UTI symptoms are pain when you urinate, sometimes blood in urine, vomiting, fever, frequent urges to pee even though you just peed, pressure in your lower abdomen.

I did call. I updated in my OP. The nurse told me it's most likely round liagment pain and to get a maternity belt and stay hydrated. She didn't say anything about a UTI. She asked if it hurt when I pee, and I said no. So that's why I'm in no rush to think it's a UTI. Im going to get the maternity belt today and a body pillow.

I've had a UTI once when I wasnt pregnant, and it KILLED when I peed, so I don't think it's that.

Thanks. The nurse did ask me if it hurts when I pee. It hasn't. I will keep an eye on it this week, and see if it feels better with the maternity belt. If not, I'll go in and get it checked. Thanks everyone.

Re: really bad cramps and back pain

I experienced lower pains on my right side of my back when I was about 25 weeks pregnant...I thought it was back issues, called the gyno, they told me to get a physical therapist! I listened to my own instincts, knew something was wrong, went to the ER, and ended up having a kidney infection!!!

Re: really bad cramps and back pain

I had back issues before getting preggo but never had anything severe until the 3rd trimester. Throughout the trimesters I would have minor pain which I believed was from either the way I slept or from stretching going on around the area, etc. The best advice I can give you is to keep active and stretch and you should be fine.
