Question for those of you with wall-mounted TV's?

Hi, I posted in another board about DH's dilemma regarding mounting our TV on the wall. His issue is that, if we hang it then what do we do with the cable box? I don't want to mount that on the wall too so that's his dilemma........Chat Icon

I know I read here on lif about some people having a red eye type thing. Does anyone know what I'm talking about??

Thanks in advance!! Chat Icon

Re: Question for those of you with wall-mounted TV's?

cable box is in the closet next to the tv.
I think it's called Ihome (the website) that sells the piece that goes on the tv to allow for the signal to reach the cable box. You could also put the cable box in the basement. I know some people that do that. I am sure PC Richard and those type stores sell the piece that mount on the tv. It's actually pretty simple

Re: Question for those of you with wall-mounted TV's?

My cable box sits on the fireplace under the tv, it wasn't our first choice but it looks fine. I've never had a problem with red eye or anything. I was worried about it being too high, but that's not a problem either.

DH got this infrared thing that does allow us to keep the cable box in a closet.

Check to see if you TV can take a cable card. We dont need a cable box because we use a cable card.

The only thing is you cant get PPV, but we never get PPV anyway.

No cable box for us :)

Re: Question for those of you with wall-mounted TV's?

We had an electrician install a power outlet behind the tv and run the cables through the wall then out underneath to the media console. Of course, that only helps If your cable box is close to the tv.

That's what we do. The closet is behind the wall.

Our tv is mounted on the wall and we have a couch under it and one across from it. We have the cable box under the couch below the tv and pushed back towards the wall. The remote still works and it is out of sight.

Where do you get a cable card?

Does Cablevision provide it or a store like Best Buy/Radio Shack?

You can get an IR repeater and put the box in a closet or something.

Re: Question for those of you with wall-mounted TV's?

we put a hole through the wall to feed the wires through, then opened another hole where our console us to plug the wire back in. Or this is what we plan on doing I should say - never knew about this wireless option.

This is what we have in our master bedroom. TV is wall mounted and all the components are located in the closet.

ETA: My DH set something like this up for my sister where she had a TV mounted on the wall in the kitchen and the components were located in the basement (I think...or maybe the cable box was in her pantry. Either way, an IR repeater was used and the components were out of sight.)

We have a shelf right underneath it for the cable box and to hide the wires.

Re: Question for those of you with wall-mounted TV's?

the red eye thing is a ir repeater.

you can wire the cabling though the wall and put it in a credenza below or a closet nearby or in a cabinet (make sure it is vented)

Look at smarthomes.com for ir repeater. They cost about 100 bucks. and comes with 4 emitters. Please note that they are different kinds because LCD's emit IR singals so you need plamsa proof or lcd proof unless its mounted in a specific location.

also note, when doing the tv on the wall, you need an outlet behind the tv.
