Question for home owners...

Do you get calls from the police/fire department requesting donations ($)? We get these calls ALL THE TIME! Joe sent $35 less than a year ago to the police department and we still get all kinds of requests. We aren't even sure it's really the police asking for $. I think it's weird for them to call all the time. They even call and say "Is Joe there?", like they know him or something.Chat Icon

Re: Question for home owners...

Yep!

But since they put a fire out at our house once we always donate.

Now they call once a year at collection time.

Re: Question for home owners...

I have gotten a few of them, and ever since DH yelled and cursed them out we havent gotten a call since.
He will even yell at some telemarketers who call past 8:00pm.

Re: Question for home owners...

We donated to the police already in October so should we still get calls? And a fireman came to our house last month and we gave him donation $ too.

We have caller id so we usually don't answer the unavailable calls. They call all morning and night and I am on the do not call list.Chat Icon

You would think for the amount they charge you in property tax... they wouldn't need to solicit donations! Chat Icon

I did the same thing as your husband when we first bought our house. Then it never ever stops or better yet, I get calls that say we were your previous owners service and we wondering if you want to continue with us luckily I knew the previous homeowners (friends) and they were like no we use such and such what a crappy JOB

Now that we have caller ID, I also dont answer the phone if it is unavailable or out of area.

We used to - but not too much anymore.
Once you donate they put you on all their lists.

Yeah, they found us fast two- I've gotten calls from two different police charities and I committed to one, which I sent back right away. Then I got another mailing from the same charity- I was thinking, dude, the check is in the mail already, so impatient!

You should just say something like we already donated this year.

Re: Question for home owners...

Yep...they even do it here in PA. I have told them twice that I do not wish to donate...I feel bad doing it...but, I'm not even sure if this is for real.

This is so true. DH made a donation awhile ago and they call constantly!!!Chat Icon They always ask for him by his first name and try to come off as a close personal friend!!! I always hear the noise in the background so I know exactly who the caller is. A few times though, I thought it was a good friend of his and almost passed him the phone.

Re: Question for home owners...

DH agreed look over their paperwork and think about sending some money. We got the donation envelope and on it was an INVOICE for the amount DH said he would THINK about sending. I wrote on the envelope - RETURN TO SENDER. A DONATION SHOULD NEVER INCLUDE THE WORD INVOICE. To me it just seemed wrong.

I was told that these calls are bogus, the Police or Fire Depts will never solicit donations via telephone.

Any PBA wives out there? Chat Icon

ETA: I have gotten fundraiser letters in the mail from my local Volunteer ambulance and Fire and donated. I knew the money was going right to them.

Re: Question for home owners...

I never got one when we moved. However, I have a policy of never donating over the phone. I tell them to send me more information or claim that I'm not the owner

Really? I would love to know. That's why I tell DH to be careful. Do we really know it is going to the police/fire dept?
