Quarantine and waiting for test results?
Settle a debate....
You go for a test due to travel requirements or surgical requirements. Something that requires a test and you feel fine.
Do you quarantine while waiting the day for your results?
Happened to a friend at work. Got the positive results while at work. And the debate started.
I thought anytime you test, symptoms or no symptoms, you quarantine until results are in?

I would think yes, you have to quarantine while waiting for the results. Otherwise you could have easily been exposed during that time

If you were exposed to someone that tested positive and waiting on results, I think the you should quarantine, but if you are just waiting for travel or surgical, I dont think you would have to.

yes of course quarantine. Why not do the right thing and protect others from a potential illness? Many are asymptomatic and believe that they are fine but test positive.

Technically yes, you should quarantine after having the test done but I think realistically many people do not.

If you are testing because you were exposed or you have a symptom then definitely you need to quarantine. If you just got the test for travel or for work then you would not. If you did then every single person should be quarantining forever.

I agree with this.
And as an aside - I'm in a district doing the 20% testing for yellow zone and those tested don't have to quarantine after the test is done - only if the results come back positive.

Personally, if I had pending COVID results for any reason I would stay home until I was confirmed negative. Many people test positive and had NO IDEA they could possibly have it. No symptoms, no exposure, but yet turned up positive. Better to be safe than sorry.

Quarantine and waiting for test results?
When I was having surgery, I quarantined after taking the test until the time of my surgery. It was 2 weeks each time, so it was a bit.
I did it because it only makes sense. First, they want you to not have covid to protect their staff. Second, I would think that having surgery when positive with covid (or if you are positive a few days after) would be a very bad thing. The body would probably give out trying to do too many things at once.

They were tested thru the facility the surgery was at.

Most travel and medical will NOT accept the rapid test results. Must be PCR. Rapid test is too inaccurate.

I would say it is not always the case where you have to quarantine while waiting for test results. Most cases? Yes. If I am choosing to travel for leisure to a state on the list, then, yes, I am going to have to wait for my test results when I return.
However, in the case of a workplace that does weekly testing, for example, of all employees, then no.

Was this person a teacher as we had one in our district that went back to work after having the test and then tested positive? That is wrong and not sure the reason why they got the test, symptoms or travel but they in turn came in to school positive.

Was the person exposed or just taking a test for other reasons? For other reasons, no need to quarantine.
You could be around dozens of people every single day that are sick with zero symptoms, who aren't waiting on a test result, and you would never know.

So back to the original question I think of it's something that is standard for what the person is doing (scheduled surgery or travel required it) as person stated I would not quarantine because the person feels fine and was not exposed and would not be quarantined if they didnt have to do the test because of this specific thing. It's my understanding that hairstylist and maybe some other professions are getting the test every 2 weeks because they have to. I dont think they quarantine every time. Can you imagine?

I photographed a teacher recently who said they are tested weekly. How would that work if they had to quarantine every single time? Imagine?!

Yeah, please don't do this. When I was in the hospital they told me Rapid is wrong almost half the time and to not bother with a rapid test.

But by this logic, nobody should leave their house ever because you could be positive at any given time.

I still stand by my stance that the rapid should be done away with.
What is the point of such an inaccurate test?
It does more harm than good...so many people get negatives on it- feel like ok I'm good- go about their lives, only to find out it was wrong and the PCR is positive.

Thanks for all the responses. Obviously if you are tested weekly for work that is different.
Personally, if I was being tested asymptotically with no contact I would just quarantine myself for the day just in case. But I get it, just wanted to hear other opinions.

I think for travel no if you can’t quarantine. For surgery it should be a requirement.
