Public schools - remote, hybrid or full?
My feeling- not based on any sort of fact, just my gut feeling- is that schools will not be back to a complete pre March 2020 state of normal until September of 2022. I think it is ridiculous and the long term repercussions on children have yet to be seen.
I ONLY say this because teachers unions are really adamant about their prerequisites for returning to in person learning. The UFT came out last week and said while they would love for NYC public schools to reopen full time in September, they are not sure that will be able to happen. Factions of the UFT are very vocal in their desire to keep buildings closed until the country reached herd immunity through vaccine- which they are now saying may take until December.
I don't know what the answer is, but I am pretty sure keeping buildings all remote for the next year is NOT it.

They have to be better in the fall. Working parents trying to help their children on top of their other jobs are stretched too thin as well (well, at least the ones who care are... DS was telling me there are some kids in his class who's parents must not care as they don't show up most of the time).
Yes, I understand that. I am also a parent. My DH is currently WFH and has to monitor my DS while he learns remotely due to a snow day. I have coworkers who have had to telework numerous times as their child's school is either remote or their child has a a Covid symptom and needs to be tested.

Pre-K through 12th are in school every day since the beginning of September. There is a remote option for those who did not want their children in school.
My district is the same.

Sorry - I didn't mean to make it seem that you didn't understand that part - obviously you do. Working teachers, or any profession that has to work in person has an additional challenge of childcare if one spouse can't stay home or if you don't have family to help. Childcare for full remote or partial remote isn't cheap - and not something most budget for once they are school aged.

Our district is K-6 full time, 7-12 hybrid (every other day) - with all parents having been given the option of remote back in August before school started, as well as at the end of 1st quarter to switch, and now at the end of 2nd quarter to switch. The district is having discussions about 7-12 coming back into the building full time instead of hybrid for 4th quarter.
