I've never asked for prayers but my newphew is in the ER now at StonyBrook. He is one week old and not gaining weight. He has dropped a full pound. He's now 5lbs. 8 oz. He was at the Ped today and they told my sister (TJSpidur1) to suppliment with formula. She has been such a trooper with the BFing. She is so upset. They told her that her milk supply is low probably due to her PCOS which obviously was a problem with her getting preggo. She feels like this is a slap in the face again. He was doing great up until this afternoon but then refused the bottle of formula an dhe became very letharic so they ran to the ER. I'm waiting for an update from her, my BIL or my parents. TIA
UPDATE thank you all for your prayers. As soon as they walked into the ER the Dr di an immedialte Spinal tap on him and chest xray. they didn't want to wait and take any chances. My parents didn't tell me he wasn't giving enough dirty diapers so that is why the Drs. jumped. He is going to be admitted and antibiotics will be started tonight. I feel HORRIBLE for my sis and BIL. I'm having flash backs to when my 1st ds was born and a week after he was born we had to rush to the ER too! Again you guys are the best!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
UPDATE #2
Well he was admitted last night and they had major trouble getting an IV into him.. They fianlly called up a DR from the NICU and got an IV into his forehead. His temp only went back to normal this afternoon so they had to call in Infectious Disease to check him out for a Bacterial Infection. They were finally able o get a good vein to get blood then. So it looks like the lttle guy will be in the hospital for a week, but on the good side -he's now hydrated and very active again. My poor sisiter has to feed him every 20 mintues, first on the breast and then formula. She is so exhauste but running on pure adreniline.
Thank you all once again for your prayers and to Michele31 for your help. I ordered the Mother's milk tea for her tonight in bulk.
