POLL: What kind of vehicle will you have as your family car?
Saw the mini-van post and was curious what people were planning or already have as their family car.

We already have a sedan and a SUV.. and I love my Jeep (even with gas prices through the roof!!  )
I think I will always have an SUV though, and with our family starting I will probably just continue to upgrade..
I am anti-minivans!!!

Probably something hatch-back ish... with good gas mileage.
I am hugely against SUVs... it's not the type of consumption lesson I'd like to teach my kids.. I'm all about conservation.

We just got a Toyota Matrix- it's kind of station-wagon-ish with a hatchback and a good-sized back seat. I like SUVs but with gas prices being what they are (and who knows what will happen long-term) we're glad to have this car. It's reliable and gets good mileage.
When we need to replace our Buick, I'd like to get something smaller- a Mazda 3 or Honda Civic. Something easy to park at my job, where I have to park on the street and space is limited.

We just bought a Hyundai Tucson so that will be our "Family Car." I was thinking about a family when I bought it because I knew we would still have that car when we have kids.

We both have a Honda Accord however my car is considered "the family car" because I have a four door and he has a two door!

I have a 4 year old & I'm now preggo w/ twins so I needed a mini-van. We need the room in case we ever plan to have other people fit in our car.

for now...it'll be our Camry. We also have a Saturn SL2 which is kinda small.
DH wants a conversion van or a big truck like a Tahoe

Right now we only have 1 child so we use our Camry when we need to take Sarah somewhere. We also have a Corolla with a car seat for her in it, but we don't feel like that car is as safe since it's older and smaller.
We plan to get a minivan if our family gets larger.

We've decided for environmental reasons and budgetary reasons that we will never own an SUV. DH was raised in a family of 5 and my Dad was always fixing up our house, carting wood etc.. We both survived without one.
Maybe a mini-van but we're not too keen on that either. We are only planning for two kids.

Yup, when we found out I was pregnant, we did a lot of research about cars in terms of safety and reliability. The subaru outback has a lot of space, isn't quite as much of a gas guzzler as the bigger cars, and gets the highest safety AND reliability ratings from consume reports so that's what we did. It was a little disheartening trading in my little VW cabrio, but I'm sure when the winter comes and I'm passing little cabrio's slipping and sliding on the road I'll feel better!

Right now we have a Trailblazer EXT which should last a while. I don't know if I would ever give into the minivan or not.

I hate mini vans and SUVs (sorry, i'm short and can't see over them, so they bug me), so once we start a family...I can't wait to get a station wagon!!!!!
I'm actually thinking of getting a VW station wagon as my next car in preparation!

Just a question. What's the difference between an SUV and a mini Van environmentally? I really have no idea...

We have an SUV, and honestly I don't know if I could ever go back to a car again. I feel so low in them now, it feels strange.
I love having 4 wheel drive, and just feel safer in the SUV.
