Poll Rent or Own during TTC?Jumping the gun but if we do become preggo should I start looking for a 2 bedroom?
Just wondering if you rent or own your house. Dh and I are thinking about TTC this year sometime but at the moment we own a home in South Carolina Investment house in HHI but in the next year or so we want to buy a house here but for now we rent. Just wondering.

DH and i rent but we are looking for a house starting in may, i will be about 22 weeks along.
ETA: when we got our apartment in july, we got a two-bedroom in case we planned on staying there, because we knew that we would be TTC soon.

We own, but if we rented, it wouldn't matter. You cannot put of TTC because of how big your house is or isn't. My parents didn't own when we were born and we turned out fine. Not sure why this is such a big deal with our generation.

ITA with this. a co-worker of mine once made a very good point: if you wait until you are financially stable to have kids, then you will never be a parent!

DH and i own investment property out east but we live and rent an apartment in nassau for work purposes. ideally, we would LOVE to have our house before we have kids. but we wanted to sell the investmet properties for more downpayment money but there's no way i'm selling in this market.
but we so desperately would love to start TTC! and everyone keeps saying you cant wait to have kids cause you dont have your house yet. so now we're seriously contemplating starting TTC and just hope that everything falls into place on its own.

We have an apartment in my parents house. Of course it would be nice if we owned. Wehad the opportunity to buy this past year but decided not to. (bad inspection report) So we are going to wait a couple of years, save more money, I'm going back to school and will be out of work for a year with the baby hopefully. I wouldn't be able to do that if we had a big mortgage payment

I agree and not sure why it is a big deal either. That is why I did put the question out there.

My parents had a one bedroom apartment with three kids in it and made it work. Then they moved to a 5 bedroom house and none of my siblings suffered at all. I was their fourth. If you can own a home when you are TTC or having a child, great. If not, the world will not come to an end and as long as you have a roof over your head and food on your plate, you will be fine.

We are renting a 2 bedroom apartment. We are TTC our 2nd. We won't have enough for a house for a few years.
When DS was born all 3 of us lived in a room at my parents house. We made it work. My son is as normal as they come.  So I am not worried about #2 coming along and us only having 2 bedrooms. We will make it work. As long as we have a roof over our heads, food in the fridge and love. We will be just fine.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT!!!!
When my parents had me they just came to the country and were living in my great aunts house in one bedroom all three of us for the first month or so....

I think it's a bigger deal now mainly because it is so difficult to buy a house without having a kids. It's even tougher to get a house with a kid. Having said that, I will still not put off having a child if you did not own. I don't believe kids are any different growing up with their parents owning or renting, its just a matter of how much more difficult it can be to own.
My mother rented her whole life and had four of us. It wasn't until we were all older (all but one of us was in college) that she was finally able to buy a house.

We couldn't and still can't afford to buy a house so we decided if we were going to TTC after the wedding that we would look into renting a 2 bedroom. We moved in a month before the wedding (Oct '06) and I got pg in May of '07. We pay a lot in rent but we have almost the entire house with a backyard and laundry room. It's a nice place and we can stay there comfortably for the next couple of years.

We have a 2 bedroom apt in my parents house and they are gone for 4 months out of the year to their house in Naples, FL. Right now while we save this is the ideal situtation for us. We decided that we would never be 100% financially stable enough for kids so whenever it happens(hopefully soon) we will make it work!

Life is never going to be perfect, something will always be wrong. There will never be a perfect time to concieve, so dont put it off over something like where you live, because everything changes, everyday, who knows where you will be in 5 years

I shared aroom with DD for 6 1/2 years, the last year and a half DH lived with us. We made it work. Now we have a 2 bedroom and plan to stay until we can comfortably afford a house. My parents rented a 3 bedroom apt for all 5 of us when we were kids. It was fine. If it were me I would wait till I got pG before looking fora new apt, just me.
