Places to live on LI?
I just got married and I we are both pretty young, 26!!
We are house hunting and I just don't know how we can afford a 400+ house.
Is there anyone on here, that has bought a house in the 200-300 range recently? If so, what town.
We just want a starter home in a decent area. Not a house we will stay in forever.We can fix it up!
We both grew up in Smithtown, and I love it around here. We just can't afford it. I keep looking on Multiple listings, but I am not sure what area to look in. I want an area that is close to Smithtown as I can get.

you'll probably get more responses on the home board.
with your price range though - it might be difficult to find somehting - Holbrook has a condo complex that is very nice and you can get a 2 bedroom for about $300.
prices seem to be coming down though - but for anything under $300 its goign to need a lot of work - I would try looking in Lake Ronkonkoma/nesconset/holbrook. you might be able to find a smaller fixer upper.

When we were looking, Rocky Point was one of the few areas that had a lot of affordable houses and a decent school district... and prices have since dropped...

my dh and i also just got married this year. we both just turned 24.
we bought a 4 bed/2 bth/full fin basement/den cape in West Babylon for 369. its a big house that has lots of potential (not a starter home). It does need work. However, nothing needed to be done for it to be livable. We have been doing 1 room at a time. Hopefully next year we can do something with the backyard (deck, fence) and eventually new siding/roof.
