Oyster Fest wasn't that good, for purely alcohol-related reasons!

Um, am I the only alcoholic who wanted to walk around with my bloody mary and beers? You couldn't take it outside! And, Canterbury Ales was soooo packed and hot that I literally downed my drink in 2 seconds just to get outside. I went with SIL and her boyfriend and my BIL...but we left to go to John Harvard's and have Pumpkin Spice Ale after like...2 hours.

This is all making me NOT want to go today. I think we are going to skip it this year. I dont feel like putting up with traffic, no parking, and aggravation. Yesterday novlibride posted that she couldnt even find a parking spot after driving an hour and a half there, and had to leave. Screw it, we will go shopping today.

I hate to say so, but yeah, I'd skip it. I could have had beers on the deck with DH at Faraday's in Smithtown!

Edit: I could swear you used to be able to walk around with beers; something must have happened that now you can't. But it's lame.

Re: Oyster Fest wasn't that good, for purely alcohol-related reasons!

Well DH and i started going about 6 years ago ..

the first year you could walk around the town and drink..

Second year the festival was in the town but you had to stay at the bar with your drink

And now they moved the majority of the vendors to the tents..which i do think sucks..totally takes away from the charm of the Fest..

But we still go

Got some cutie stuff..

Wish i bought a pic that i ended up passing on...i am an idiot Chat Icon

The lots were all full when we got there around 1! They waved us away from every one. I think we were the 2nd car to be turned away from MFG though (is that what it is called?).

If we were more familiar with the area I think we would have just parked on the street and walked, but we had no idea how far a walk it was, and all the streets were so packed.

I had gone for several years and it seemed like it just got worse and less fun every year.

It was so much better when it was in the town and not in the parking lots!

Last year we parked in the neighborhood and there were buses driving around picking people up and dropping them off. Right at our car too. Did they do that this year?

We didn't go cause DH was too busy playing his dumb game on his computer Chat Icon

I used to go also when it was in town and it was wayyyy better. You could walk around and drink and the booths were all set up in the streets.
We went this year to run in the 5K on Saturday morning, took the dog and left cuz we couldn't walk around with her. We left around noon and there was hardly any parking and the lots were pretty full. Totally not worth it IMO, next year I will stick with the Riverhead Country Fair - it was wayyyyyyy better.

we just got back. Sooooo freaking crowded!! Holy crap you couldn't move! Don't even get me started on having to push a double stroller!!!

Honestly, we live in the area, so if you know where to park, it isn't too bad. We went at 2 p.m., got a perfect spot at St. Dominic's HS and walked from there. Not far walk at all.....

Since we have kids, we don't go to drink, but eat. And the lines were just crazy! I can't believe I spent 15 minutes in line to get my son a grilled corn on the cob!

It's not the same as it was when we started going 6 years ago when we first moved here. To me, it seemed the most crowded this year!

Oh well, we still go every year!

It was a nice day, and my DH and I had a great time. I actually fed giraffes carrots, which was pretty awesome. I don't get to do something like that everyday. I also got to meet and take a pic. with hottie Wayne Chrebet from the NY Jets. He is definately a McDreamy!

I actually was the last person in the line. The line was closed off and I went under the ropes. The lady said the line was closed. I was like ok, I'll be last and she let me in. He was down I think it was call WestEnd or something like that. There wasn't much down by where he was.

I went with my good friend and cousin. It was SO crowded you could barley walk. I have been going for years (and even used to live right on that st) and I don't remember it ever being so packed. We didn't even go through the tents b/c I didn't think it was worth all the hassle with the crowds. We basically went, ate, and left! Chat Icon
