This exactly.
Next year we will be in a new house and I plan to do two trees. One will be the "fancy" tree with white lights. The other will be DH's tree with multi.

I normally like multi colored lights..that's what I grew up with as a kid. Especially since we have so many personal and fun ornaments. DH likes all white lights. I feel like white lights are nice when your tree has a theme...or all glass ornaments or something fancy. LOL. But I don't mind the white lights and DH prefers them so that's what we've been doing

We do white more toward the center of the tree, usually one stand. Then multi color on the rest of the tree, I think about 2 stands for that. Then we have the color ones blinking

I would prefer just white but DH loves the multicolored ones, so it's one of the few "decor" decisions "compromise" on lol

Multi!
I grew up with multi & love the soft light it gives off.
I tried white the first year I had my own tree & hated it...it was too bright.

This is us too 
We purchased a prelit tree from JC Penny on Black Friday several years ago. It has both colored and white lights on it. You can choose to have only the white lights or only the colored lights on or both at once. I really like both at once.

we have whatever. we have no theme. we are lucky if we put the tree up by two weeks before xmas with DD older we will try harder but I have not one inch of decorating desire and/or skill in me
