Yeah, you've got to be kidding me with this statement. So the 70% of my WHITE, Jewish family who were murdered by the Nazis weren't oppressed ( lol, murdered, tortured and destroyed would be more accurate verbs) Or, to a much lesser extent, my mother's Italian family who were ostracized by the community, children used as low cost laborers by wealthy Americans, being denied free milk because " Italian kids don't need mlik, like American people and much more.
Guess what, oppression, human rights abuse and appalling atrocities exist ACROSS ALL races. Who sold blacks in to slavery initially? Other BLACK people. It is beyond ignorant to say that white people haven't suffered. Everyone has suffered. You know what else people don't want to talk about ? How linked all this is to socioeconomic status. An upper middle class black family will likely have a much better life than a poor white person who lives in a trailer !

Agreed. However, right now, in THIS situation the looters are mostly black. because of this, in THIS specific event, it helps perpetuate the awful stereotype.

To the author of the super naive line "White people have never been oppressed": Jews were banned from housing, jobs, politics or even entering many businesses right here in US of A for a very large part of 20th Century. BTW, it still is going on in the rural parts of USA.
For a large portion of 20th century no Greek of Italian could buy a house in a "nice" neighborhood right here in USA.
As far as the rest of the world: I invite you to look up "growing up Jewish in the Eastern block" or "Being Jewish in Soviet Russia". It isn't pretty AT ALL! Jews were systematically (and with the government blessing) banned from jobs, political offices, good colleges, etc, etc. You could be picked on anywhere in public-school, store, bus, subway- just for not looking quite slavic enough.
No matter how well you did in school, being Jewish AUTOMATICALLY eliminated your chances of getting into any good colleges in the country.
Look up what was going on in Czechoslovakia in the mid 60s. Czechs are white people...
Look up Jews in Iran in the 60s and 70's. Why do you think most of them left their country of birth?
There are many, many more examples like the ones I listed...
Yet NOT ONCE were people running amuck through a city, rioting, shooting and stealing...

Can't speak for Diamondgirl but I feel like I know enough about her to say that she didn't mean this as you're taking it. I think she means many black men are incarcerated way more that white men, and that typically, a group of black men hanging on a street corner seems more dangerous than a group of white men. It's how people are conditioned to think. It's wrong. And I think she's saying that this thought lies in the back of many white minds and even if you don't claim to be racist or think that you are, you can have these tendencies of thoughts and if given a gun and a badge, it can override you.
Unless I'm wrong and then Diamondgirl can clarify. But that's how I perceived it. And I know DG is not ignorant at all.. She's the opposite..intelligent and well-read.
Thank you for clarifying - at first I was very taken aback but I understand her reasoning.

problem with this is people don't usually associate Jewish people as "white people". I'm jewish...i can say this. I've met a lot of people who think my race and nationality is Jewish. I have to correct people all the time and tell them I'm WHITE but my RELIGION is Judaism.

I agree with eveything you wrote but the above made me LOL because I thought of one of Chris Rock's comedy skits. Where he talks about everyone crying racism but what about the Native Americans. 
Angry or not, there is no reason to act like savages. Unfortunately, ignorance and ghetto behavior comes in all colors, shapes and sizes.

I think this is one of the reasons I so despise the whole Black Vs. White comparison. WHITE is SUCH a broad term! An Irish immigrant stepping on US soil for the first time is white. Blue blooded heiress living on 5th Av is white. Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe are white...
SO completely different, yet all thrown into one large silly group: white people... "White people were never oppressed", "white people have it easier", "white people are not discriminated against"...
BTW, there are a lot of different types of Jews as I am sure you know... Ashkenazi Jews ARE white... Sephradic Jews are also white, they just don't "look" white... So, yeah, I see where the confusion comes from!

This behavior is absolutely sickening and mind blowing. Who in their right mind thinks it is OK to destroy THEIR OWN community and the livelihood of others because they disagree with a verdict!!??
I wonder how many of these looters, rioters and arsonists actually know all of the FACTS of this case. it seems to be many of them hear -white cop-black teen and make their judgement call right there. So sad.
I just cannot rap my head around this. And I swear Al Sharpton has done more to HARM race relations than anything.
One last thought, why is it that black on black crime is never shown in the media. It happens every day and yet nobody is in an uproar about that?! I just don't get it. I absolutely hate this divide in our world.

He was unarmed, right?
Not arguing, just trying to understand how the officer got off with shooting an unarmed kid though.

I am not condoning the riots and violence, but we do not live in an equal society. There is a systemic racial problem in this country.
In the first half of 2014, New Yorkers were stopped by the police 27,527 times.
22,682 were totally innocent (82 percent).
14,549 were black (53 percent).
7,662 were Latino (28 percent).
3,363 were white (12 percent).

Of course you can. You can make a choice to not be a victim. You can choose to rise above what anyone else thinks or says and be your best self. No one defines who I am but me.
In regards to the statistics you posted, yes, that's correct. What also needs to be considered is the demographics of the areas in which the stops took place. My husband works in an area where it is 97.9% non-Caucasian. He could literally walk up and down the street all day and trying to find a white person is a tall order. He loves his job and loves the area he works in. He serves his students but not a single one of them is white. So, if he was a cop and part of his duty was to stop the residents periodically to safe check for weapons, of course the vast majority would be non-Caucasian.
It's like going to Scotland looking for Japanese people. Certain races and religions and groups of people live largely together, in pockets. That's how NYC is... And a lot of Long Island too.
