NYC teachers & health insurance
how are the benefits? are there huge copays/out of pocket expenses? does anyone know how much it costs if we want our husband and child covered?
tia, trying to get some info before just to prepare myself...

We pay very little each paycheck for health insurance...Most people take GHI for this reason. CoPays are $15...This is only if you have GHI. There are other ones you can get but they are more $$$

I had Empire BC/BS and it was $$$. It was awesome though. I had it while I was pg and never paid out of pocket, had as many sonos as I wanted..... To add DH and DD would have been even more $$$$ so we switched to his heath insurance which was cheeper.

I have GHI, don't pay anything besides copays...most doctors are $15, and then if out get lad work done another $15. I have no complaints.
Being preggo I never paid for anything besides a $300 bill for delivery...never had to pay a copay at the office each month.

My hsuband and I have GHI- we have the optional rider, which is only $15.00 a month. A Friend of mine is a teacher in NYC and has children and has been VERY happy with GHI for their insurance.
Also, although the insurance itself is actually free, you pay union dues and that is what pays for your dental, vision and prescription plan. GHI or other insurance does not cover Rx.

thank you thank you thank you that has helped tremendously. now i have to see if my previous docs take ghi since i'll probably go wiht them. i had bcbs of fl and it was great for me but i had to pay $$$ when ds was born and it was a lot of $$$ to add ds an dh...
