She is like- I'm scared that if we go virtual for the snow tomorrow we will never go back.
I'm scared of going virtual.
Note- she is not scared of getting Covid, she's scared of having to do remote school ever again.
I'm so sick that my child's formative school years are this shit show.
So sad and these teachers love it so they can make over $100,000 to teach at home in their pajamas. 
Generalizations like this are really unfair. I know many teachers, and none of us are enjoying this nightmare.

There are schools that had to go remote after break due to lack of staff who got sick over break. January/February have always been the time of year when tons of people are sick. Since the variants seem to be less severe and many are vaccinated so if they do get it they will likely have mild symptoms, maybe it’s time. If not now, then when? I highly doubt many districts will elect to do take the masks off though.

I doubt either but it is an option now. I know many parents who are for the option too.
Not in Nassau but someone asked our County Exec about it and he said the schools answer to the state and it can't be done.

I also have more coworkers out and honestly my colleagues right now are overwhelmed because we are covering round the clock for everyone else. I say this as I am out as one of my own children have covid and one has strep. I still think this is a bad decision.
I agree with you and will gladly mask my kid if it means she can go to school in person.
But that last caveat is the problem. We’ve spent nearly TWO YEARS with inadequate education and now we are again being threatened with remote school. We mask, we test, we vaccinate and still, we’re told we might be remote. Again. So I ask, what else is it you people want from us? What else on God’s green earth will make schools function again?
No schools near me are threatening to go remote unless they can’t staff the building. My principal and 4 APs were subbing in classrooms all day today to keep school open for students. The thing that will keep school open are finding people willing to sub.

Any mentioning of the possibility of going remote is solely related to staffing right now. I'm in a school and have a kid in school and I can tell you that NOBODY wants to go back to Spring 2020.
I've seen mentions on here of "hire more subs." All I can say is  because they don't exist. If you feel strongly about this, please feel free to attend the next BOE meeting and encourage them to pay subs more. I'd thank you if you did.
Unless I'm missing something most kids in this area have been in school all year so far. It's only a small number of school districts on LI that are remote right now. And they'll be going back imminently. I understand that we are living in extremely stressful times but acting like the sky is falling is really not helping (Luckystar that's not directed at you, just people in general. I know you're not on LI anyway.) But some people around here are harping endlessly about schools closing WHILE their kids are sitting in classrooms. It makes no sense.

My DD brings home a “remote baggie” every day in case they need to go remote. several neighboring districts are already remote.
I appreciate the staffing shortages. I don’t put this on the teachers, I put it on the administration. When hospitals were short staffed they graduated nurses early. I wonder if NYS would consider that for teachers. They need to start thinking outside the box.

I agree with you. I just emailed some of our BOE members and told them to go take a trip or something because the shit storm is coming. I definitely am not in favor of masks but we are in the middle of a ton of people being out sick and I don't want my kids home lol. I would have waited until like April and then removed them for good.

I am VERY easy going/hard-to-offend, but as a mother and a teacher, I find this statement infuriating. My colleagues and I WANT OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN to be in school. Please be kind...we are ALL going through an extraordinarily stressful time.

I'm curious if the remote districts all plan to go back next week. I know for sure that a few of them do but I don't know about every one of them.
We are now embarking on year three of this and the pattern is pretty clear - it's the winter that's the real issue in terms of spikes. In NY even the summer 2020 numbers were much lower. So we might need to do masks and "remote baggies" for a few subsequent specific windows of time - winters basically - until this thing dies down. Does it suck? Of course. But I don't think it's the end of the world.
This is a total side note, but people like to toss around the phrase "living in fear." It's combative, condescending, and generally false - I hang around with people who all take this seriously and I don't know a single person "living in fear." We work out of the home, socialize, attend school, travel, etc. The vaccines and masks or whatever are the tools that we are using to be able to do those things. We're living our lives while people are sitting here talking about this ALL DAY LONG. To each their own, but if they want to talk about living in fear, some people on here need to look in the mirror.

Doesn't the state have an army of teachers that graduated and then chose to be Starbucks baristas because they couldn't find teaching jobs for years? Why doesn't the state offer these people actual jobs now? I'm sure they can dig up more than a few. They have a database they can check. They're surely still paying off those sweet student loans.

You clearly don’t have kids who’ve done remote school. It’s WAY more work for teachers via remote dealing with kids logging on, mute/unmute, cameras, background noise, technical problems, missing materials, reworking daily lesson plans to teach through a screen. My kids teachers are superheroes in person, superhuman when we’ve had to do remote.

Ha! I remember those years! It was almost impossible to find a contract job on LI no matter ur grades, no matter if u were an honor student. I worked as a sub for a long while before I was finally able to find a contract job. Then I became a mom and quit. But yeah, they def have a database, maybe they’ll give me a call soon.

I don’t get why people say...”we take it very seriously -blah, blah, blah-” all the time and kinda infer that others don’t and if u don’t (by their standards) then u’re irresponsible. Taking covid “seriously” is very subjective. What u do might not be perceived as doing enough by others or others might do their own thing to avoid getting/spreading covid without doing many/all the things other people do. Some people might think not going out when sick is enough, others might think masks are enough, others vaccines, others using preventative medicine either allopathic or alternative, etc. Everyone is different, and everyone do what they think it’s the ‘responsible thing’. I doubt anyone purposely goes out and gathers with people knowing they actually have covid. So can we please stop inferring people don’t take it “seriously”? I actually consider THAT to be condescending.

No masks required in schools in Nassau County
First of all, I think a lot of the teachers who couldn’t find jobs probably have expired licenses so unless the state did something to reinstate their licenses, they can’t be hired.
And I taught remote all last year. I was both in school and at home. While I enjoyed going to the bathroom whenever I needed to and eating a hot lunch, it was the most awful and stressful year of teaching ever!!!! I cried more often than I’d like to admit. I worked all day . I had to constantly recreate materials. I saw parents walking around in their underwear, kids watching tv, kids having no support at home, I was in a room with 3 other teachers so I had to figure out how to ignore the children that THEY were teaching! If you think I sat on my a$$ in my pajamas collecting a paycheck, you are wrong.

I’m in Texas and we’ve had no masks, no contact tracing and no quarantines since school started in August.
what is it like to have a normal life? To have your kids have normal school years?
I'm so jealous.
My DD is texting me right now from the bus saying- are we going virtual? I said no, I hadn't heard that. She said well all the teachers said to take our stuff home because we might have a snow day tomorrow. I said yes it might snow
She is like- I'm scared that if we go virtual for the snow tomorrow we will never go back.
I'm scared of going virtual.
Note- she is not scared of getting Covid, she's scared of having to do remote school ever again.
I'm so sick that my child's formative school years are this shit show.
So sad and these teachers love it so they can make over $100,000 to teach at home in their pajamas.
I am VERY easy going/hard-to-offend, but as a mother and a teacher, I find this statement infuriating. My colleagues and I WANT OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN to be in school. Please be kind...we are ALL going through an extraordinarily stressful time.
Once again I never said all but you can’t deny that there are teachers out there who like this. Why is this such a shock? Just like every other job.

Whether he can do this or not, I think it is still symbolic in that it shows that it is time to move on and people should start thinking for themselves instead of blindly following random rules that change daily. Regardless of what schools actually do, I take it as a good sign that people are ready to start living again.
