Nicole Richie and Joel Madden Wedding Draws Family, Friends – and an Elephant!
Talk about a surprise guest.
After two children and four years together, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden invited about 130 close family and friends for their scheduled wedding Saturday.
But one attendee stood way out: a trained elephant was spotted being led into the Los Angeles estate of Richie's father, music superstar Lionel Richie, where two tents were set up for the ceremony on a warm evening.
Otherwise, the couple appeared to be sticking to tradition. Their rings were by jeweler Neil Lane, who also crafted Richie's 4-carat engagement ring, a source tells PEOPLE.
"They wanted an Old Hollywood, glamorous feel to their wedding," says another source. "They're going all-out with the decor. Nicole wanted a memorable, elegant affair for only their closest friends and family on their special day."
How the elephant fit in wasn't immediately known.
Guests included the groom's twin brother and Good Charlotte bandmate Benji Madden, 31.
Richie, 29 and Madden, 31, announced their engagement in February, and Richie's friends threw her a luxurious bachelorette party in Mexico in September.

Yeah, this I don't get.
To be honest, I would never trust an elephant...especially when it would be very close to guests and children. There are way too many horror stories of them just going on a rampage (which, I understand why). Why would you want to take that chance?

ugh, why is it that people need to have poor animals part of their wedding day 
Some Indian/Pakistani weddings have the groom ride in on an elephant or a horse.. and it makes me so sad to see the condition of some of the animals..

Some Indian/Pakistani weddings have the groom ride in on an elephant or a horse.. and it makes me so sad to see the condition of some of the animals..
On the day of my wedding there was another wedding at my RH and it was an Indian wedding. The groom wanted to ride his elephant up into the lobby and the RH told him no way. Thank GOD. No idea how the guy thought he would fit on top of the elephant and clear the carport into the lobby

A close family friend was at the wedding. Nicole Richie and the Madden brothers were at their wedding that we attended last Valentine's day. Both Madden brothers were groomsmen at the wedding we were at.
