I'm curious as to what a vaccine injury consists of - is it like you get the illness or is it something that can't actually be linked conclusively to the vaccine itself

I don't know what I'm going to do for my kids. We're talking about moving. The religious exemption allowed me to avoid 2 vaccines for my boys because they are highly likely to be vaccine injured from them. My kids have all their other immunizations, but now they will not be allow to continue going to school. I was vaccine injured from the HPV vaccine and although my kids have received most of their vaccines, there are 2 (3 if you count the HPV vaccine - that will be mandatory soon) that my specialists (hematologist, rheumatologist, and neurologist) advise against.
There is currently a bill to make the HPV vaccine mandatory that is expected to pass. I was always very pro-vaccine but now because of the slew of health issues I'm still facing from getting that series of 3 shots, I have to be proactive for my kids based on the recommendations from my specialists. My kids pediatrician group does not care, they say there is only a slightly higher chance that my kids would have the same reaction. They are ill-informed and I will trust my specialists opinions over theirs any day. I'm not their patient and they will not even look at my medical records to help make a decision for my kids. My kids do not qualify for a ME because they are not vaccine injured. It is crazy that I have to allow them to be potentially injured to get the medical exemption. A potential lifetime of illness, just to get the exemption. It shouldn't be so difficult when you are legitimately trying to do the right thing.

That’s the point a lot of ppl missed and still missing. S2994/a2371 have nothing to do with religious exemption, they literally just used that as an excuse to get ppl’s trust and have everyone agree with them, they also use the measles to give this bill more reason to pass. Once vaccines become mandatory ANY and ALL vaccines must be given to kids WITHOUT parents approval. We must see the bigger picture! A lot of parents are contemplating either moving to another state or homeschooling, a lot. Interestingly enough ppl have not realized the negative impact this along can bring, with schools, with communities. Hope is not over though and there are already things being done against this new law. But we MUST educate ourselves with what’s going on even if they’re not affecting u immediately and focus on the bigger picture rather than just the excuses they’re feeding us.

There are 3 bills about to pass in regards to vaccines.
1. All daycare and prek kids MUST have the flu shot. No exemptions.
2. The guardisil shot will become mandatory.

There was just an article the other day, I believe it was News12 in the Bronx. An 11 yr old was given the gardisal vaccine by the school nurse with out parental consent. The law didn't even pass yet.
A better question would be how many kids do you know that would say no to someone in a position of authority that can give them the vaccine? No one is saying that a child would necessarily seek out the vaccine. To say it's not a plausible scenario is naive. Call your school and see if the nurse has vaccines, they do.

Sorry for the crazy quote but how do they know the child hadn’t had it?? I give updated vaccination records to my school every August/September. My DD got a shot in March. The school has no idea she received this vaccination as I was not required to update them. Wouldn’t they somehow have to access the child’s medical records to be sure they were not double dosing?

When did school nurses became equip with vaccines and needles to administer to children? My stepson couldn't even bring his inhaler to school without providing a doctors note to the school nurses office.

That's a good point. Our school nurse doesn't even keep track of the records I send her very well. I've had to resend items. Even my doctor's office didn't record one of our vaccines, but I had all the information - lot number and everything to give them.
I think if it's recorded properly, the nurse can check records with NY state

Everything is propaganda in one way or another. If you believe you're getting all of the facts from either side you're wrong.
I am 100% in favor of vaccinating on schedule. But I understand why some aren't and they have a right to their say. This does affect their bodies and their children's bodies. The fact that people feel the entire discussion should be censored because some are recommending to contact senators about the bill is pretty disturbing IMO.

Educating on a vaccine (risks, benefits, etc) is a totally different topic then making parents AWARE that there are bills in the works that would make vaccines that are currently optional mandatory. As a parent, wouldn't you want to be aware of potential changes to your child vaccination schedule?

I typed out an entire in-depth reply above, but I really don't want to seem like I'm promoting anti-vax propaganda, so I removed it. My doctors are all in agreement that my injuries are caused by the vaccine, and despite everything, my kids are still almost fully vaccinated. I was just sharing my experience and how the RE being removed effects my family.
Believe me, when I hear about people we know being sick with something, I breath a sigh of relief knowing my kids are vaccinated against it. I just don't want what happened to me, to happen to them. So at my doctors recommendation, I should have the right to say no to 2 vaccines without having to remove my kids from school. I guess not though.

My assumption is they will take every measure to alert you that you are behind on a mandatory immunization before taking matters into their own hands. At that point you would know that by CHOOSING to send your child into school there is a risk they can immunize him (if the bill passes).
My child was born right after the school year starts. Every single year i get notices from the school saying he is behind on his shots because his physical isnt scheduled until after the first day. I just have to take him in twice. But Id imagine that will continue to happen -- they will continue to send you a notice that you must have shots by X date.

Educating on a vaccine (risks, benefits, etc) is a totally different topic then making parents AWARE that there are bills in the works that would make vaccines that are currently optional mandatory. As a parent, wouldn't you want to be aware of potential changes to your child vaccination schedule?
You’re absolutely right. I agree that parents should be made aware. If a parent has an issue with any of the vaccines being made mandatory, they should speak with their doctor about their concerns over the particular vaccine and decide with the doctor the best course of action for their child.

Our ped will give us the empty vial if we ask. We get an info sheet on the vaccine and potential side effects. Before giving the MMR to my son, the pediatrician made sure my titers were up to date because I was pregnant with my daughter. They were fine, so my son was able to be vaccinated. The pediatrician had a lengthy conversation with me over making sure both my child, my unborn child at that time, and I were okay to even be in the same home to be exposed to the vaccine. I am not sure what kinds of things are handed out elsewhere, but I am really glad for our pediatrician.

I don't recall telling anyone to stop a bill. I said contact you assemblyman or senator.

Our ped will give us the empty vial if we ask. We get an info sheet on the vaccine and potential side effects. Before giving the MMR to my son, the pediatrician made sure my titers were up to date because I was pregnant with my daughter. They were fine, so my son was able to be vaccinated. The pediatrician had a lengthy conversation with me over making sure both my child, my unborn child at that time, and I were okay to even be in the same home to be exposed to the vaccine. I am not sure what kinds of things are handed out elsewhere, but I am really glad for our pediatrician.
That’s exactly how it should be for all pediatricians. Well trained about vaccines, not just a a few hrs in medical school. I mean, if we’re trusting them with our little ones, I’d expect for him to tell the good, the bad, and the ugly about vaccines!

Pediatricians are appropriately trained??? I can tell u right now the education they receive about vaccines and everything that involves vaccines is very brief, same happens with nurses. Who do you deem appropriate to educate parents on vaccines? Where should parents be obtaining this information?
Educating on a vaccine (risks, benefits, etc) is a totally different topic then making parents AWARE that there are bills in the works that would make vaccines that are currently optional mandatory. As a parent, wouldn't you want to be aware of potential changes to your child vaccination schedule?
You’re absolutely right. I agree that parents should be made aware. If a parent has an issue with any of the vaccines being made mandatory, they should speak with their doctor about their concerns over the particular vaccine and decide with the doctor the best course of action for their child.
Pediatricians, WELL TRAINED pediatricians. They should fully submerge into everything related to vaccines, they should be educated lengthy in medical school about this, and they should continue with the studies cause as we know vaccines are not something set on stone. As a patient, I’d expect them to inform me fully with all the cons and pros before giving my kid a vaccine, so I as the mother, can make the best decision for my child (informed consent). But if I see I’m not getting these from my own pediatrician, u can bet anything in life, I’d make it my job to get to know what’s been given to kid.

I’m glad ur pediatricians are extremely well informed. Like I said, we need more than just vaccine information. Obviously the logical thing to do is search for the greatest pediatrician but the fact that many are not well trained clearly signals a red flag. The issue shouldn’t be searching for the best trained pediatrician...the problem to be solved should be providing ALL pediatricians the right training. But like another pp pointed out, there are other bigger issues that require the attention of ALL of us right now. Bills that are seconds away from being passed, and I know for a fact that most of the ppl even from these boards have a problem with. Need proof like u suggested before? A quick web search will bring them up.
