need help getting rid of pacifier @ 23 mths

DD really only uses the pacifier for naps and going to bed. Sometimes she asks for it though and I vowed a while back to be done with it before she turned 2,well that day is quickly approaching. I have spring break the end of this month and since i'll be home I figured it'd be easier to do it then. How do you recommend getting rid of the pacificier???

Good luckkkkkk!!!

Re: need help getting rid of pacifier @ 23 mths

When DS was 27 months, HE got rid of them. When he turned 2, we told him the fafa (that's what we call it) fairy needed them to give to other babies, and if he gave them up, he could get a present from her. He told us he wasn't ready and we didn't push him, just talked about the fairy and how other babies needed them. at 26 months, he started askiing for his present, which was a goldfish named Dorothy. :) We told him he would get it when he gave up his fafa's. He slowly gave them all up over a few weeks, and after one night without any, he got his fish the next day. He has never asked for it after that.
I've heard of other people cutting them, or snipping them.

Good luck!

Re: need help getting rid of pacifier @ 23 mths

This is what I did, and I've told others about this trick and it has worked for them too, so hopefully it will work for you.

DD was a paci addict. When she was just over 2, we cut the tips off of all of her pacis (we had 6 or 7, they were everywhere).

When she tried to use them, the paci part was so short it wouldn't stay in. She looked at me in complete shock and I told her, "oh no, it's broken!". She went around to all of the others and tried them too, they were all broken too. She kept trying to use them in their broken state for a day or so, but then she threw them out.

We had 1 or 2 tough nights where she wanted a paci and we had to reiterate that they were broken and we didn't have any more.

I have to say, it went a lot better than I expected.

Re: need help getting rid of pacifier @ 23 mths

we had santa come and bring toys in exchange so he can give her binkie to other babies...it worked out great! We hyped it up for MONTHS before! I originally said 2 yrs old too..but waited until Christmas (She was 28 mo) I felt she was old enough to understand "where it was going"! she never asked for it after that day!

You can try the binkie fairy route!?!?!?! just hype it up for some time beforehand!
