Napping outside the house??? (plus vent)
HOW DO YOU GET THEM TO DO IT????
We had to leave Thanksgiving dinner at my aunt's b/c DS was BEYOND cranky and refused to nap there. Usually we have to take him in the carriage and walk him up and down the block. The weather wasn't conducive to that so we had to leave early. We missed dessert and I'm BEYOND ******.
All the men, including DH were football zombies so I was basically on my own. Even when DH had DS, which was often, either DS wanted me and whined OR DH had 1eye on DS and the other on the t.v. so DS would be crawling into places he couldnt be i.e. the kitchen.
I'm exhausted. I've been having extreme headaches and bouts of dizziness for weeks (I'm going to the doc and for tests but no reasons why yet other then having an inner ear inflammation.) So hearing his whine all day was killing me. I love my son but seriously I wanted him to just stop! I know his teeth are bothering him but all he does is whine. He doesn't speak (11 months and not a single syllable) so its just nonstop whining. I'm a SAHM so for me I hear it day in, day out nonstop. So of course it bothers me more than it does others. But add in the headache and dizziness and I was officially at my limit.
DH tried to help but it felt as if it was a chore to him because the football games were on.
Of course everyone had a suggestion as we were leaving. I'm so upset and fed up at the moment.

Mine hasn't done this since he was a baby. It's a PITA, no one ever wants to get together early (can't blame them) so holidays DS is usually cranky.

Re: Napping outside the house??? (plus vent)
DS is 13 months and won't nap anywhere other than in his crib at home or his crib at grandma and grandpa's, that's it. When we go somewhere, we ALWAYS have to leave early. The way i try to think of it is, he won't be a baby forever, so for now, I work around him, his needs come 1st, regardless of everyone's comments (and i hear them a lot).
ETA: DS is sick and did not nap more than 10 minutes all day, he kept waking up. By 5:30 during dinner, he was barely keeping his eyes open and was clingy (which he NEVER is). I didn't get to finish my food, and it was sooooo good. We ran out of my parents house to get him to bed. Got here and it took over an hour to get him to stay asleep bc he kept waking up (very unlike him).

Re: Napping outside the house??? (plus vent)
My son was typically pretty good about napping outside the house but anytime he wasn't somehow it was my fault. even to this day, his "inflexibility" is MY FAULT. I am just so sick of it. sometimes they just need to be home. I think its normal.

Re: Napping outside the house??? (plus vent)
I could have written the OP myself, word for word! This was exactly our day today. Granted, my DS is only 11 weeks but holy cranky pants Batman! It was a long day... We left the house at 10:30am and just got home around 9:45. DS only napped at my parents' house for about 30 mins and at my in-laws he wouldn't close his eyes more than 10 mins at a time. When he wasnt eating, he was crying, screaming and basically beside himself the entire time. He decided to have a fit JUST as we were sitting down to dinner, so I sat with him in the other room while everyone else ate. I was so upset, I was in tears. It was DS' 1st Thanksgiving and I couldn't enjoy one minute of it. DH was no help, football was on. So it was just me, missing dinner, spending half the day in another room, etc. I am so upset that my baby's first holiday was such a bust! I was stressed and upset all day. I feel your pain!! I am praying that DS makes up for it and sleeps well tonight!

Sometimes you just have to throw in the towel like you did. It sucks, but what's the alternative? Be miserable with a miserable baby? I think you did the right thing. If you don't have a kid who can sleep anywhere, it's like torture. And it's not like he's small enough to hold him and let him sleep.

Re: Napping outside the house??? (plus vent)
OMG I feel like I had a horrible day too! FOOTBALL
I let DS go and play with my mom and sister mostly, but he's 10.5 months so he's not really "passed around" anymore, he knows who he wants to be with. So during the day it was fine, but I swear once it got close to his bedtime, 6:30pm I knew there was going to be a problem. At home he goes in the crib awake, but very tired after his bath and bottle and goes to sleep. When we're out I could kill myself! My mom doesnt let him cry AT ALL SO annoying, and she doesnt listen to me. I feel like theres no respect for my parenting. Its ridiculasly insulting to me. I really felt bad letting him cry in the PNP upstairs in a strange place, he does sleepover at least once a month though. I would have left but DS was supposed to sleep over tonight. He did, but didnt fall asleep until almost 10pm! It was torture for 4 hours. I felt so bad for him they didnt listen when I said he was tired and cranky at 6pm, "NO he's not! its too early!" Such BS! I cant stand it! I'm really dreading christmas eve now be of this. I'm also pmsing so I'm extra mad. Thanks for letting me vent and so sorry you had a crazy day too! I totally understand all the comments too!

Re: Napping outside the house??? (plus vent)
my DS is the same way always has been. we ALWAYS have to deal with meltdowns, it's just down right embarrassing sometimes. DS is 26 months old and this was the first holiday everrrrrrrrrr we did not have to deal w/ meltdowns. but I had other problems, he smacked me in the face, told me to go away, and slammed a door in my face twice. I wanted to kill him today I was so furious with him
so I feel your pain, it's always a friggin nightmare having my kid out of the house. we always have to hear comments its so frustrating.
