Nail techs asking personal information
I finally decided to look for a new nail salon after many years. I found one that I am in and out with quickly which I like. I have been there a few times and I guess it wasn't long before I was asked, Kids??? Married??? How old are you?? Is every nail salon like this? I just want to get my nails done and not discuss all my personal business and not asked how old I am when I am in my 40s and asked about kids.

I don't get my nails done very often but my guess is they are just trying to be nice and make small talk.
I usually have guys who end up doing my nails when I go and they are quiet, but at a hair salon, those ladies are all up in the biz.
FWIW I've never been asked my age, but get the kids and married questions, what do you do for a living, etc. all the time.

I guess I was just taken back by the age question. I could see if I was a teenager, but I haven't had anyone ask me how old I am in years, not even my hairdressers.

I always do my nails in the morning when DH has off and can stay with DS. They always ask me if I'm off from work. Just making small talk. I always smile and give one word answers when I go, that's my quiet time!! Lol

My lady tells me I need to lose weight. She's from Malaysia, but tries to speak English at any chance--sometimes her delivery isn't the best. I just ask her equally rude questions.

I swear this must be some sort of cultural thing. I've had some really rude comments while getting my nails done also. I guess maybe I just hope it's cultural so I can feel less irritated/insulted.

This is what I was wondering. I left my old salon due to the constant questioning, among other many things. I found this place to try and after a few times, bam, the loaded questions.

At the place I used to go to, the owner would ask me every time, without fail, how much my pocketbook cost, and what my DH did for a living. She also asked me how big my ring was when I got engaged. I finally decided it's not cultural, it's just rude. Now I go somewhere else.

Same here ...they are trying to make small talk, age has never been asked. Hmmmm ... if you are wearing a wedding band you must be married? LOL ...I have been asked the kids question at some, not all places.

I stopped going to a place I went to for years when they got too personal...now my new place I have gone to for years I use the same person and keep the small talk very small

Thats ridiculous. She shouldn't ask you personal imformation like that. As a nail tech I'll make some generic small talk about the weather etc. I'll sometimes ask if they live in the area or have tried different restaurants around town. But if I'm getting one word answers I get the hint and stop talking. lol.

When I was like 39 weeks pregnant the woman doing my pedicure said "oh, you so big... you having the twins?" I wanted to kick her in the face. I reaaaaaaaaaallly had to bite my tongue, hard!

I've been asked about a pimple, like really omg I have a pimple?! Like I didn't notice it this morning? Although to be fair I had the worker at 7-11 ask me about it once too.
Nail girl once pointed at my stomach and was like "baby in there?" And I was horrified and like no! It was after my wedding so maybe that's why she asked?
They also say "oh skin is so soft" or will say my bag or shoes or whatever is nice so I feel it goes both ways, compliments and insults lol. And hey always ask about work or where my baby is.

I don't really care what kind of conversation they make or don't make but I had one girl who was doing fine on my nails, then found out I am an attorney and from then on she always tried to upsell me various services. Sometimes she even did it just after she mentioned something about my work so I know it was on her mind.
